Vietnam’s exports and imports of animal feed and materials in nine months

AsemconnectVietnam - According to the statistics figures of the General Department of Customs, in the first nine months of this year, Vietnam’s exports of animal feed and materials decreased slightly compared with the same period last year.

In the period, the country’s imports of animal feed and materials also fell as compared to the same period of 2018

Vietnam’s exports of animal feed and raw materials in the first 9 months of 2019
In September 2019, Vietnam’s exports of animal feed and raw materials continued to decline compared to August of 2019, down by 20.2 per cent, equivalent to 50.7 million USD - this was the second consecutive month of decline.

Generally in the first 9 months of 2019, Vietnam’s exports of animal feed and raw materials reached 516.41 million USD, down by 4.7 per cent compared to the same period of 2018.
In the first 9 months of this year, the exports to mainland China accounted for 27.6 per cent of the proportion, reaching 142.63 million USD, however, the export speed to this market decreased by 17.11 per cent over the same period last year. In September of 2019 alone, the exports off animal feed and materials to China also decreased by 45.47 per cent compared to August of 2019 and decreased by 44.07 per cent compared to September of 2018, equivalent to 9.11 million USD.

Cambodian market accounted for 14.39 per cent of the proportion and reached 74.36 million USD, up by 6.45 per cent over the same period last year. In September of 2019 alone, the exports to Cambodia reached 9.61 million USD, up by 9.12 per cent compared to August of 2019 but down by 3.96 per cent compared to September of 2018.
The next were Malasyia, India and the U.S with 56.28 million USD; 49.4 million USD and 30.77 million USD, increased by 6.45 per cent; 10.92 per cent and 11.13 per cent, respectively.
In addition to the above markets, Vietnam also exports to other countries such as Taiwan (China), Indonesia, Malaysia, etc.
In general, in the first 9 months of this year, the country’s exports of animal feed and raw materials to almost all markets have been growing. In particular, during this period, Japan strongly increased its imports of animal feed and raw materials from Vietnam, although the turnover only reached 26.98 million USD, but compared with the same period last year, it surged by 22.94 per cent, particularly in September of 2019, Vietnam exported to Japan 2.62 million USD worth of animal feed and materials, an increase of 6.28 per cent compared to August of 2019 and an increase of 0.84 per cent compared to September of 2018.

In contrast, Thailand’s imports of animal feed and materials from Vietnam decreased by 26.53 per cent, to 16.37 million USD, particularly in September of 2019, Thailand imported from Vietnam 1.24 million USD worth of animal feed and materials, up by 16.58 per cent compared to August of 2019 but down by 11.92 per cent compared to September of 2019.
Vietnam’s productsion of animal feed and materials in September and the first nine months of 2019
The production of animal feed and materials in September 2019 was estimated at 1.03 million tons, up by 2.2 per cent compared to September of 2018 and up by 1.3 per cent compared to August of 2019. The figure brought the production of animal feed in the first 9 months of 2019 to 9.4 million tons, up by 0.1 per cent over the same period last year.

According to the General Statistics Office, the production of feed for aquatic products in September of 2019 was estimated at 604,400 tons, up by 0.2 per cent compared to August of 2019 and up by 14.8 per cent compared to September of 2018. The figure brought the production of feed for aquatic products in the first 9 months of 2019 to 5.15 million tons, up by 14 per cent over the same period last year.

Vietnam’s imports of animal feed and materials fell in first 9 months of 2019
Vietnam imported 262 million USD worth of animal feed and materials in September of this year, decreased by 29.47 per cent over the previous month and by 31.99 per cent invalue over the same month of last year, showed the statistics figures of the General Department of Customs.
In September, Vietnam’s imports of animal feed and materials from Argentina reached 120 million USD, decreased by 29.31 per cent compared with the previous month and by 18.75 per cent over the same month of last year. The figure brought the country’s total imports of animal feed and materials from Argentina in the first 9 months of this year to over 1.1 billion USD, accounted for 40.5 per cent of the total market share.

It was followed by the U.S with over 33 million USD in September, down by 55.62 per cent month – on – month and by 45.27 per cent over the same month of last year. The figure brought the country’s total imports of animal feed and materials from the U.S in the first 9 months of this year to over 451 million USD, down by 10.14 per cent year – on – year.
Meanwhile, the imports animal feed and materials from China reached over 13 million USD in September, down by 7.09 per cent month – on – month and by 8.5 per cent year – on – year. The total imports of animal feed and materials from China in the first 8 months of this year reached over 140 million USD, decreased by 18.99 per cent year – on – year.
In the first 9 months of this year, Vietnam spent over 2.8 billion USD on importing animal feed and materials, down by 2.2 per cent over the same period last year.
In the period, the country’s imports of animal feed and materials from Canada reached 39.5 million USD, increased sharply by 151.3 per cent; from Australia 19.8 million USD, up by 73.36 per cent; from Argentina – over 1.1 billion USD, up by 28.94 per cent; and from the Philippines – over 13.7 million USD, up by 21.25 per cent year – on – year.

Imports of materials for producing animal feed in the first nine months of 2019
Vietnam also imported wheat, corn, soybean; oil and grease as materials for producing animal feed and materials in the first 9 months of this year.
Wheat: Vietnam’s imports of wheat were estimated at 303,000 tons worth of 70 million USD in September and over 1.8 million tons worth of over 494 million USD in the first 9 months of this year, decreased by 54.44 per cent in quantity and by 48.72 per cent in value compared with the same period of 2018.
The leading wheat import markets in the first 8 months of this year were Australia with the market share of 41 per cent; Canada – 14 per cent; the U.S – 6 per cent; and Brazil – 5 per cent.
In the first 9 months of this year, the imports of wheat from Russia decreased by 81.95 per cent in quantity and by 80.87 per cent in value year – on - year, while the imports from the U.S decreased by 26.91 per cent in quantity and 25.89 per cent in value; and from Australia – down by 20.57 per cent in quantity and 16.03 per cent in value. Meanwhile, the imports from Canada decreased by 4.36 per cent in quantity and 1.97 per cent in value compared with the same period last year. However, the imports from Brazil increased by 9.17 per cent in quantity and 38.81 per cent in value over the same period last year.

Soybean: Vietnam’s imports of soybean reached 199,000 tons worth of over 79 million USD in September and over 1.3 million tons worth of 526 million USD in the first 9 months of this year, increased by 0.16 per cent in volume and decreased by 8.4 per cent in value compared with the same period of 2018.
Corn: The imports of corn reached over 1.6 million tons worth of 321 million USD in September and over 8.1 million tons worth of over 1.6 billion USD in the first 9 months of this year, increased by 12.45 per cent in quantity and by 10.69 per cent in value compared with the same period of 2018.
Argentina and Brazil were the leading corn import markets of Vietnam in the first 9 months of this year with 63 per cent and 35 per cent of the total market share, respectively.
