According to the statistics figures of the General Department of Customs, since 2017, together with the Netherlands and the UK, Germany has been in the top 3 biggest trading partners importing Vietnam's goods in the EU. Specifically, in 2017, the total two-way trade turnover between Vietnam and Germany reached 9.5 billion USD, of which Vietnam exported 6.3 billion USD to Germany. In 2018, the two-way export turnover increased to over 10 billion USD, of which, Vietnam exported 6.86 billion USD worth of goods to Germany.

In the first 6 months of 2019, Vietnam exported to Germany more than 3.33 billion USD. Vietnamese products with high export value must be mentioned such as footwear, handbags, textiles, seafood, etc.

Vietnam’s exports of goods to Germany in the first 6 months decreased by 4.7% in turnover compared to the same period in 2018; in which, the group of mobile phones and accessories ranked first with a decrease of 14.1 per cent, reaching 911.87 million USD, accounting for 27.4 per cent of the total export turnover of the country to this market.

Footwear of all kinds followed with 486.95 million USD, accounting for 14.6 per cent of the total turnover, up by 5.9 per cent over the same period last year; textiles and garments - 365.35 million USD, accounting for 11 per cent, down by 2.6 per cent; computers, electronic products and components - 277.05 million USD, accounting for 8.3 per cent, down by 8 per cent; coffee - 214.4 million USD, accounting for 6.4 per cent, down by 13.6 per cent; machinery, equipment and spare parts - 196.94 million USD, accounting for 5.9 per cent, up by 2.6 per cent.
