Textile and garment exports totaled 12.19 billion USD in first 5 months
Thursday, July 18,2019AsemconnectVietnam - Vietnam’s textile and garment exports in the first 5 months of 2019 reached 12.19 billion USD, up by 11.7 per cent over the same period of 2018.
According to the statistics figures of the General Department of Customs, Vietnam’s textile and garment exports to foreign markets after falling by 7.5 per cent in April 2019, have increased back to 16.6 per cent in May of 2019 in comparison with April of 2019 and up by 16.1 per cent compared to the same month of 2018, reaching 2.73 billion USD. The figure raised the country’s textile and garment export turnover in the first 5 months of 2019 to 12.19 billion USD, up by 11.7 per cent over the same period of 2018, accounting for 12.1 per cent of the total export turnover of the whole country.
The US was the country’s largest export market of textiles and garments, accounting for 46.8 per cent of the country's total export turnover of this group, reaching 5.7 billion USD, up by 10.9 per cent over the same period last year. Particularly, in May of 2019, the exports of textiles and garments reached 1.29 billion USD, up by 17.3 per cent compared to the previous month.
In May 2019, textile and garment exports to EU market increased strongly by 31.9 per cent compared to April of 2019, reaching 397.36 million USD; raising export turnover to this market in the first 5 months of 2019 to 1.53 billion USD, accounting for 12.6 per cent of the total turnover, up by 7.1 per cent over the same period last year.
In addition to the US and EU markets, there were 2 markets with turnover of over USD 1 billion in the first 5 months of the year, including Japan and South Korea. The exports to Japan reached 1.46 billion USD, accounting for 12 per cent, up by 4.8 per cent over the same period last year; while the exports to Korea reached 1.16 billion USD, accounting for 9.5 per cent and up by 7 per cent.
