Exports of fruits and vegetables in first five months of 2019
Sunday, July 14,2019AsemconnectVietnam - In the first 5 months of 2019, vegetable and fruit export turnover of the whole country reached 1.76 billion USD, up by 5.9 per cent compared to the first 5 months of 2018.
According to the statistics figures of the General Department of Customs, the exports of fruits and vegetables increased by 57.4 per cent in March, by 28 per cent in April, then in May 2019, the export turnover decreased again by 23.1 per cent compared to April of 2019, reaching 358.69 million USD.
In the first 5 months of 2019, the export turnover of vegetables and fruits of the whole country reached 1.76 billion USD, up by 5.9 per cent compared to the first 5 months of 2018.
72.6 per cent of Vietnam's vegetables and fruits exported to China, with 1.28 billion USD, up slightly by 3 per cent over the same period of 2018. Particularly, in May of 2019, the country’s exports of fruits and vegetables to China declined sharply by 32.7 per cent compared to April of 2019 and decreased by 4 per cent compared to May of 2018.
EU market ranked second with 60.16 million USD, accounting for 3.4 per cent of the total, increasing strongly by 39.7 per cent. Particularly, in May of 2019, the country’s exports of fruits and vegetables to EU increased strongly by 30.9 per cent compared to April of 2019 and increased by 37.6 per cent compared to the same month of 2018.
The country’s exports of fruits and vegetables to Southeast Asian countries in May of 2019 reached 12.53 million USD, an increase of 1.5 per cent compared to April of 2019 and an increase of 10.5 per cent compared to May of 2018; increasing export turnover to this market in the first 5 months of 2019 to 59.08 million USD, down by 13.5 per cent over the same period last year.
Meanwhile, the exports of fruits and vegetables to the US market increased by 14.8 per cent, reaching 58.46 million USD, accounting for 3.3 per cent of the total; and exports to South Korea also increased by 18.8 per cent, reaching 55.29 million USD, accounting for 3.1 per cent of the total.
The exports of fruits and vegetables to the majority of markets in the first 5 months of this year increased the turnover compared to the same period in 2018, in which the exports to several markets increased strongly by over 100 per cent in turnover such as: to Indonesia increased by 304.4 per cent to 1.09 million USD; to Italy - increased by 257.9 per cent to 5.57 million USD; to Laos - increased by 185.3 per cent to 10.24 million USD.
In contrast, the exports of vegetables and fruits declined sharply in some markets such as: to Cambodia - decreased by 45.5 per cent to 0.96 million USD; to Russia fell by 24.9 per cent, reaching 11 million USD; to Malaysia - fell by 43 per cent, reaching 13.46 million USD.
