Car imports increased sharply in first five months
Friday, June 28,2019AsemconnectVietnam - In the first 5 months of 2019, the number of imported cars increased sharply by 615.5 per cent over the same period last year and the turnover increased by 475.3 per cent.
According to the statistics figures of the General Department of Customs, the number of cars imported to Vietnam after a consecutive decline in March and April 2019, increased strongly by 31.9 per cent in quantity and 26.3 per cent in value in May compared to April 2019. The figure also increased strongly by 521.8 per cent in volume and 356.2 per cent in turnover compared with May of 2018.
In the first 5 months of 2019, the amount of imported cars increased sharply by 615.5 per cent over the same period last year and the value increased by 475.3 per cent, reaching 64,795 units, equivalent to over 1.43 billion USD.
Cars originating from Thailand imported into Vietnam market were still at the top in terms of quantity and turnover. In the first 5 months of 2019, the number of cars imported from Thailand increased sharply by 432.3 per cent in volume and 410.1 per cent in turnover compared to the same period last year, reaching 38,386 units, equivalent to 762.95 million USD, accounting for 59.2 per cent of the total imported cars to Vietnam and accounting for 53.5 per cent of the total value.
The number of cars imported from Indonesia - the second largest car import market, surged by 2,434.6 times in quantity and 1,530 times in turnover over the same period last year, reaching 19,477 units, equivalent to 276.8 million USD, accounting for 30 per cent of total imported cars and accounting for 19.4 per cent of total import value.
In addition to the two main markets above, Vietnam also imported cars from China with 2,059 units, worth of 89.47 million USD, up by 502 per cent in quantity and 854 per cent in turnover over the same period last year; while the imports from Japan reached 1,523 units, worth of 77.03 million USD, increased sharply by 481per cent in quantity and by 348.5 per cent in turnover; the imports from EU reached 902 units, worth of 64.77 million USD, up by 321.5 per cent in volume and by 330.6 per cent in turnover; and the imports from the U.S reached 674 units, worth of 23.12 million USD, up by 11 times in both quantity and turnover over the same period last year.
