Hanoi's economy showed many positive signs in four months

AsemconnectVietnam - According to the data just announced by the Hanoi Statistics Department, the export and import turnover of goods in the first 4 months of 2024 in Hanoi increased by 9% and 8.1% respectively compared to the same period of 2023.

Besides, the total retail sales of goods and consumer service revenue in April in Hanoi also recorded an increase of 8.1%.
In the first 4 months of 2024, the export turnover of goods in Hanoi city was estimated to reach 5.8 billion USD, up by 9% over the same period last year. Of which, the export turnover of the domestic economic sector reached 3.5 billion USD, an increase of 18.1%; while the export turnover of the foreign direct investment sector reached 2.3 billion USD, down by 2.7%.
Product groups with increased export turnover over the same period include computers, electronic goods and components reaching 783 million USD, an increase of 6.2%; machinery, equipment and spare parts reached 729 million USD, an increase of 15.1%; transport vehicles and spare parts reached 637 million USD, an increase of 11.3%; textile and garment group reached 637 million USD, up by 2.6%; agricultural products reached 538 million USD, an increase of 72%.
Besides, there were 3/12 major product groups whose export turnover decreased over the same period last year, including: footwear and leather products reaching 101 million USD, down by 29.6%; glass and glass products reached 65 million USD, down by 20.4%; phones and components reached 29 million USD, down by 59.7%.
During the same period, the import turnover of goods was estimated to reach 12.4 billion USD, an increase of 8.1% over the same period of 2023. Of which, the import value of the domestic economic sector reached 10.4 billion USD, an increase 10.9%; while the import value of the foreign direct investment sector reached 2 billion USD, down by 4.6%.
In addition to the increase in import-export turnover, total retail sales of goods and consumer service revenue in April of 2024 in Hanoi also recorded an increase of 8.4% compared to the same period of 2023.
According to the Hanoi Statistics Department, in April, Hanoi City did a good job of stabilizing the market, strengthening the connection between supply and demand of goods, and ensuring food safety. At supermarkets and shopping centers, many attractive promotional and discount programs were implemented by retailers to stimulate consumption, increase revenue, and meet people's needs during the holiday season.
As a result, total retail sales of goods and consumer service revenue in April of 2024 were estimated to reach 66.6 trillion VND, up by 1.8% over the previous month and up by 8.1% over the same period last year. The total retail sales of goods reached 42.7 trillion VND, up by 1.6% and 8.4%, respectively.
Hotel and restaurant revenue reached 8.7 trillion VND, up by 1.8% and by 8.2%; Travel tourism revenue reached 2.2 trillion VND, up by 3.2% and by 52.4%; other service revenue reached 13 trillion VND, up by 2% and by 2.1%.
In the first 4 months of 2024, the total retail sales of goods and consumer service revenue reached 266.2 trillion VND, up by 9% over the same period last year. Of which, retail sales of goods reached 171.6 trillion VND, accounting for 64.5% of the total and increasing by 9.2%. Specifically, gemstones and precious metals increased by 24.1%; food increased by 10.9%; vehicles excluding cars increased by 9.1%; garments increased by 8.9%; passenger cars increased by 6.9%; gasoline increased by 6.3%; household appliances, tools and equipment increased by 6%; other goods increased by 13.2%.
Regarding the consumer price index (CPI), in April of this year, CPI in Hanoi decreased by 0.46% over the previous month, up by 5.74% over the same period last year. Average CPI in the first 4 months of this year increased by 5.28% compared to the average in the same period of 2023.
Accordingly, in April of 2024, 5/11 product groups had CPI increase compared to the previous month and 6/11 product groups had CPI decrease compared to the previous month. In particular, the group of drugs and medical services increased by 6.87% (impacting CPI increase by 0.35%) due to Hanoi implementing Resolution No. 05/2024/NQ-HDND of the City People's Council regulating the Medical examination and treatment service prices are not within the scope of payment of the Health Insurance Fund but are not on-demand medical examination and treatment services at state-owned medical examination and treatment facilities in Hanoi City.
