AsemconnectVietnam - On Tuesday, Robusta coffee prices in Vietnam's Central Highlands, the country's largest coffee-growing area increased by 400 VND to VND90,200 – VND91,200 per kg compared to Yesterday, according to Kinhtedothi.

Gia Nghia of Dak Nong provided the maximum price of VND91,200/kg, while traders in Lam Dong province offered the lowest price of VND90,200/kg. Robusta coffee rose to VND90,200 per kg in Bao Loc, Di Linh, and Lam Ha; to VND 91,000 per kg - VND91,100 per kg in Dak Lak; to VND91,100 – VND91,200 in Dak Nong; to VND90,800 per kg in Kon Tum, and to VND90,800 – VND90,900 per kg in Gia Lai.
Coffee prices in the domestic markets of Vietnam and Indonesia reached new records last week, due to low inventories and still very high demand. The price difference (Dif.) is pushed up very high, at 500 - 550 USD/tonne for Robusta coffee type II, 5% broken black and at 750 - 800 USD/tonne for Sumatra coffee type 4, 80 defective seeds. The Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development analyzed that the main reason why Robusta coffee export prices increased was due to concerns about supply shortages. The hot weather in key coffee growing areas has made many importers worried about the prospect of a difficult supply of Robusta coffee for the new crop, because Vietnam is the world's largest Robusta exporter.
It is forecast that Vietnam's coffee output in the 2023-2024 crop year may decrease by 10% to 1,656 million tonnes, the lowest level in 4 years, due to drought. Meanwhile, Robusta coffee inventories in the world continue to be unstable, causing market psychology to always be concerned about supply shortages.
Vietnam exported 398,000 metric tonnes of coffee in the first two months of 2024, up 16.2% from a year earlier, government data released on Thursday showed. Coffee export revenue in the same period rose 67.5% to $1.25 billion, the General Statistics Office said in a report.
Coffee export turnover set a record when it surpassed the 1 billion USD mark after only 2 months. This causes a shortage of domestic goods, especially in the context of decreased output last year.
The Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development has set a target of Vietnam’s total coffee plantation area reaching 640,000 - 660,000 hectares by 2030, with exports expected to account for 80-85% of the country’s total production.
