AsemconnectVietnam - In 2023, Vietnam exported more than 31.3 million tonnes of clinker and cement, equivalent to more than 1.32 billion USD, down 1.2% in volume and 4.1% in value.

According to statistics from General Department of Customs, Vietnam's clinker and cement exports in December reached more than 2.53 million tons, earning nearly 98 million USD, up 0.9% in volume and down 3% in value compared to November 2023.
Cumulatively for the whole year 2023, our country exported more than 31.3 million tonnes of clinker and cement, equivalent to more than 1.32 billion USD, down 1.2% in volume, down 4.1% in value over the same period. 2022. The average export price in the 12 months of 2023 reached nearly 42.4 USD/tonne, down nearly 3% over the same period.
Regarding the market, the Philippines is the leader, accounting for 27% of export turnover, second is Bangladesh (17%) and third is Malaysia (5.2%).
Cement & clinker exports declined because China reduced imports (down 90% over the same period), demand in the country's real estate market is still weak. In contrast, Bangladesh is a market that recorded growth when cement and clinker exports to this country increased by 40% over the same period thanks to increased investment in infrastructure.
Australia is an active market promoting imports in 2023. Specifically, in the cumulative 12 months of 2023, Australia has imported nearly 470,000 tons of clinker and cement from Vietnam, equivalent to 23.4 million USD, an increase of 135 million USD in volume and increased 120% in value. The 12-month average export price reached nearly 50 USD/tonne, down 6.5% over the same period in 2022.
Demand for cement is high but because cement production affects environment and domestic production costs are high, Australia still imports a large amount of cement every year.
Australia's cement imports before 2013 were mainly from China (48%), Taiwan (43%) and Thailand (7%). However, since 2013 up to now, Vietnamese cement and clinker have gained a foothold in the Australian market and their market share is increasing sharply.
