Vietnam still the number 1 supplier of white fish to Brazil

 Friday, February 23,2024

AsemconnectVietnam - According to statistics from Vietnam Customs, Vietnamese pangasius exports to Brazil in 2023 reached 113 million USD, an increase of 19% compared to 2022.

According to Vietnam Association of Seafood Exporters and Producers, Brazil is one of few markets achieving positive growth in pangasius imports from Vietnam. While most major markets see a continuous decline in 2023, the South American country consistently achieves 2-3-digit growth in most months of the year.
In last 2 months of 2023, pangasius exports to Brazil nearly double compared to the same period in 2022 and is the highest level in the last 2 years.
In fourth quarter of 2023, Brazil imported nearly 42 million USD of Vietnamese pangasius, an increase of 78% over the same period in 2022.
Notably, in December 203, pangasius exports to Brazil grew by 3 digits, double that of December 2022. Thanks to pangasius sales in the last month of 2023, Brazil ranked 4th in the market consuming the most Vietnamese pangasius after China, Hong Kong (China), the United States and CPTPP in fourth quarter 2023.
Although pangasius exports to Brazil grew, average export price to this market was recorded in opposite direction.
As of November 2023, average price of pangasius exports to Brazil only fluctuates below 3 USD/kg. In November 2023, average export price to this market reached its lowest level in the past 2 years.
According to data from World Trade Center (ITC), Vietnam is still the number 1 supplier of white meat fish to Brazil. By end of 2023, export prices to this country have dropped to a low level but export turnover has increased, showing that demand for pangasius in Brazil is still good.
With growing middle class in Brazil, businesses exporting Vietnamese pangasius to this market have a lot of room to develop more value-added products instead of just exporting frozen pangasius fillets.
Pangasius exports to the Brazilian market in the last months of 2023 are expected to be a long enough momentum for pangasius exports to this market in 2024.
