The maximum price for pepper stayed at VND82,500 per kg in Dac Lac and Dac Nong, while in Dong Nai province, the lowest price at VND80,000 per kg. Farmers in Binh Phuoc sold pepper for VND82,500 per kilogram, in Gia Lai province for VND80,000 per kilogram, and in Ba Ria – Vung Tau province for VND82,000 per kilogram.
The current market is very quiet, trading is moderate due to the upcoming Tet holiday, some export and processing companies for holidays, and new crops have not brought much to the market. The transactions are mainly speculative purchases to help the market not turn down.
In the Central Highlands region, recently there has been a situation where agents declared default, causing farmers to face the situation of losing goods and carrying debt.
According to Lao Dong newspaper, every time the pepper harvest comes, farmers in the Central Highlands in general and Dak Nong in particular have the habit of consigning agricultural products to business agents. The reason is partly due to the lack of warehouses to preserve goods, so after each harvest, farmers often consign goods to agricultural trading agents.
Currently, the police of Tuy Duc and Krong No districts are actively investigating, verifying and clarifying cases of default due to consignment of agricultural products that have recently occurred in the area.
in 2023, according to the VPSA, Vietnam exported 264,094 tonnes of pepper of all kinds, up 13.8% compared to 2022. Total export turnover reached 906.5 million USD, down 8.0%; of which, black pepper reached 770.6 million USD, and white pepper reached 135.9 million USD. Asia is Vietnam’s largest pepper export market in 2023, accounting for 52.7% of the market share. In particular, China accounted for 22.8% of the export market share, reaching 60,135 tonnes, up 174% compared to 2022.
Next is the following markets: India 12,812 tonnes, accounting for 4.9% (up 4.2%); UAE 12,132 tonnes, accounting for 4.6% (down 24.7%); and the Philippines 8,021 tonnes, accounting for 3% (up 27.5%). The Americas ranked second in terms of export market share, accounting for 22.8% and exports increased by 0.3%, of which, the US was the second-largest export market of Vietnamese pepper, reaching 54,271 tonnes, accounting for 20.5%, down 0.8% compared to last year. Exports to European markets accounted for 19.5%, down 1.4% from last year. Exports to Africa increased by 7.8%.
