 Wednesday, January 24,2024

AsemconnectVietnam - On Wednesday, Robusta coffee prices in Vietnam's Central Highlands, the country's largest coffee-growing area rose by 500 VND to VND73,000 – VND73,900 per kg compared to Yesterday, according to Kinhtedothi.

Cư M'gar of Dak Lac provided the maximum price of VND73,900/kg, while traders in Lam Dong province offered the lowest price of VND73,000 /kg. Robusta coffee increased to VND73,900/kg in Bao Loc, Di Linh, and Lam Ha; to VND73,800 – VND73,900 per kg in Dak Lak; to VND73,700 – VND73,800 in Dak Nong; to VND73,500 per kg in Kon Tum, and to VND73,400 – VND73,500 per kg in Gia Lai.
According to statistics from the General Department of Customs, in 2023, Vietnam's coffee exports will decrease by 8,7% in volume, but increase by 4,6% in value compared to 2022, reaching 1,62 million tonnes, worth 4,24 billion USD. As of January 1, many Vietnamese localities have almost completed the coffee harvest for the 2024 - 2023 crop year, but supply scarcity still exists, while demand is quite large.
Information is estimated to be about 1,5 - 2,5 million bags of coffee under contract and need to be met from the current coffee harvest that appeared late last year, causing domestic coffee prices to skyrocket. If in the 2022 - 2023 crop year, the inventory transferred from the previous crop was about 160.000 tonnes, then this year, this number is less than half, about 58.000 tonnes.
The Vietnam Coffee and Cocoa Association (VICOFA) forecasts that coffee output in the 2023 - 2024 crop year (from October 10 to September 2023) will decrease by 9% compared to the previous crop year to about 2024 million tonnes. Due to the impact of climate change, the area of intercropping increases, farmers invest in crops with high economic efficiency such as durian and fruit trees.
