 Monday, January 22,2024

AsemconnectVietnam - On Monday, Robusta coffee prices in Vietnam's Central Highlands, the country's largest coffee-growing area remained unchanged at VND71,500/kg – VND72,500 per kg compared to Yesterday, according to Kinhtedothi.

Gia Nghia of Dak Nong provided the maximum price of VND72,400/kg, while traders in Lam Dong province offered the lowest price of VND71,500/kg. Robusta coffee stayed at VND71,500/kg in Bao Loc, Di Linh, and Lam Ha; at VND72,400 – VND72,500 per kg in Dak Lak; at VND72,300 – VND72,400/kg in Dak Nong; at VND72,300 per kg in Kon Tum, and at VND72,200 – VND72,300 per kg in Gia Lai.
Last week, shipping congestion caused the world's maritime routes to slow down the transport of goods. This pushes commodity markets to increase prices, especially coffee products from Asian producers transported to Europe have to go around South Africa, increasing shipping time and adding many other costs. Robusta coffee futures prices in London reached an all-time high.
Dealers said robusta supplies remained tight because of strong demand and some disruption to the flow of supplies from top producer Vietnam. Robusta coffee prices have risen this year, as imports of the coffee variant from key regions into Europe have become more costly and slower amid brewing Red Sea tensions.
Esclatating tensions in the Red Sea could push up prices of agri commodities across the board and reintroduce volatility into a sector that was initially poised to have a less troubling year, market watchers said.
Attacks on commercial shipping in the Red Sea by Houthi rebels in Yemen since mid-November have affected passage through the Suez Canal -- the shortest maritime route between Asia and Europe.
This has compounded disruptions to shipping routes and supply chains, which for months already had to grapple with a drought-stricken Panama Canal.
Since the second half of 2023, some ocean carriers had already rerouted trade through the Suez Canal, away from the Panama Canal.
