Rice exports forecast to be positive in first half of 2024

 Monday, December 18,2023

AsemconnectVietnam - Rice exports in the first half of 2024 are forecast to continue to be positive when Vietnam's major rice import markets demand increased imports.

Vietnam's main rice export was still white rice
According to the data from the General Department of Customs, Vietnam's rice export output in the first 11 months of the year reached 7.8 million tonnes, earning a turnover of 4.4 billion USD. These are record numbers, the highest since 1989 and are expected to continue to increase in the near future.
The number one market for Vietnamese rice continued to be the Philippines, currently accounting for about 35% of the market share of Vietnamese rice exports. In the first 11 months of 2023, the amount of rice exported to this country reached 2.63 million tonnes, equivalent to 1.41 billion USD. Behind were Indonesia, China and African countries.
Vietnam's export rice prices will be relatively complicated from 2021. Specifically, in early 2021, rice prices reached 550 USD/tonne, but by mid-2022, this number dropped to nearly 460 USD/tonne, then increased dramatically in 2023. The highest price was recorded in October of 2023, reaching 640 USD/tonne. In particular, some businesses can reach agreements close to the threshold of 800 USD/tonne.
