DAILY: Vietnamese pepper prices remained unchanged on September 22

 Friday, September 22,2023

AsemconnectVietnam - On Friday, domestic pepper prices in Vietnam's Central Highlands remained unchanged at VND70,000 to VND72,500 per kg compared to Yesterday, according to Kinhtedothi.vn.

In Ba Ria-Vung Tau province, the maximum price for pepper stayed at VND72,500 per kg, while in Gia Lai province, the lowest price to VND70,000 per kg. Farmers in Binh Phuoc sold pepper for VND72,000 per kilogram, in Dong Nai province for VND70,500 per kilogram, and in Dak Lak and Dak Nong provinces for VND71,000 per kilogram.
Preliminary statistics from the Vietnam Pepper and Spice Association show that in the first 18 days of September 2023, Vietnam exported 8,615 tonnes of pepper, of which black pepper reached 7,728 tonnes and white pepper reached 887 tonnes. Total export turnover reached 31.3 million USD.
Phuc Sinh, Nedspice and Tran Chau are the main export enterprises, with export volumes reaching 717 tonnes, 643 tonnes and 600 tonnes respectively. Meanwhile, the US and China are the two main export markets reaching 1,167 tonnes and 1,137 tonnes.
In the first 18 days of September 2023, Vietnam imported 1,792 tonnes, of which black pepper reached 1,604 tonnes, white pepper reached 188 tonnes, total import turnover reached 6.4 million USD.
Tran Chau, Son Ha, KSS and Harris Freeman are the main import enterprises. Brazil and Indonesia are the two countries that mainly supply pepper to Vietnam, accounting for 49.6% and 29.4%.
In August 2023, Vietnam exported 19,617 tonnes. Thus, the export volume in September 2023 will definitely decrease compared to the previous month, showing that the demand of other countries' markets has not yet recovered. A strong USD affects the demand for goods, including pepper.
However, in August 2023, Vietnam imported 1,731 tonnes of pepper, while in the first 18 days of September 2023, this amount was imported. This shows that Vietnamese businesses are increasing stockpiling purchases while the market is slowing down, and also shows that domestic supply is lacking and must buy to compensate for reserves.
Following are domestic pepper prices on September 22, 2023, in the main pepper growing and consumption regions:
