Seafood export markets in 8 months of 2023

AsemconnectVietnam - In the first 8 months of 2023, Vietnam’s exports of seafood products reached nearly 5.79 billion USD, down by 24% compared to the same period of 2022.

According to the preliminary statistics figures of the General Department of Customs, Vietnam’s exports of seafood products in August of 2023 increased by 10.3% compared to July of 2023 but decreased by 13% compared to August of 2022, reaching over 858.78 million USD.
Overall, in the first 8 months of 2023, Vietnam’s exports of this product group reached nearly 5.79 billion USD, down by 24% compared to the same period of 2022. Particularly, seafood exports of enterprises with foreign investment (FDI) accounted for 9. 8% of the country's total export turnover of this product group, reaching 568.69 million USD, down by 7.3%.
Seafood exported the most to the US market, accounted for 17.6% of the country's total export turnover of this product group, reaching nearly 1.02 billion USD, a sharp decrease of 37.3% over the same period of 2022. In August of 2023 alone, the figure reached 165.26 million USD, an increase of 13% compared to July of 2023, an increase of 5.3% compared to August of 2022.
Japan ranked second, accounting for 16.8%, reaching nearly 973.94 million USD, down by 13.4%. In August of 2023 alone, the exports to this market reached 135.15 million USD, up by 8% compared to July of 2023 but down by 22% compared to August of 2022.
The next was the Chinese market. In August of 2023, the country’s exports of seafood to China increased by 8.3% compared to July of 2023 but decreased by 6.4% compared to August of 2022, reaching 124.75 million USD. Totally in the entire 8 months of 2023, the country’s exports to this market decreased by 17.7% compared to the same period of 2022, reaching over 874.36 million USD, accounting for 15.1% of the total turnover.
The seafood exports to the FTA RCEP market in the first 8 months of 2023 decreased by 17.2% compared to the first 8 months of 2022, reaching 2.88 billion USD; while the exports to the FTA CPTTP market decreased by 21.3%, reaching 1.54 billion USD. Seafood exports to the EU market accounted for 10% of the country's total seafood export turnover, reaching over 581.94 USD, down by 34.6% while the exports to the Southeast Asian market accounted for 7.6% of total turnover, reaching over 438.44 million USD, down by 16%.
