DAILY: Vietnamese pepper prices remained unchanged on September 8

AsemconnectVietnam - On Friday domestic pepper prices in Vietnam's Central Highlands remained unchanged at VND70,500 to VND73,500 per kg compared to Yesterday, according to Kinhtedothi.vn.

In Ba Ria-Vung Tau province, the maximum price for pepper rose to VND73,500 per kg, while in Gia Lai province, the lowest price to VND70,500 per kg. Farmers in Binh Phuoc sold pepper for VND72,500 per kilogram, in Dong Nai province for VND71,000 per kilogram, and in Dak Lak and Dak Nong provinces for VND71,500 per kilogram.
At the end of the most recent trading session, the International Pepper Community (IPC) listed Lampung (Indonesia) black pepper price at 4,323 USD/tonne, down 0.16%; Brazilian black pepper ASTA 570 at 3,350 USD/tonne; Kuching black pepper price (Malaysia) ASTA kept at USD4,900/tonne.
Muntok white pepper price was 6,469 USD/tonne, down 0.19%; Malaysia ASTA white pepper price is still at 7,300 USD/tonne.
Vietnam black pepper price traded at 3,500 USD/tonne with 500 g/l grade, 550 g/l grade at 3,600 USD/tonne; White pepper price is at 5,100 USD/tonne.
According to preliminary statistics of the Vietnam Pepper and Spice Association, in August 2023, Vietnam exported 19,617 tonne s of pepper of all kinds, including 17,425 tons of black pepper and 2,192 tonnes of white pepper, up 29.3% compared to July.
Total export turnover reached 73.4 million USD, of which black pepper of 62.4 million USD and white pepper of 11.0 million USD, up 29.5% compared to July.
The average export price of black pepper in August reached 3,634 USD/tonne, down 49 USD compared to the previous month. White pepper reached 5,185 USD/tonne, down 22 USD compared to the previous month.
The US continues to be Vietnam's largest pepper export market in August reaching 4,376 tonnes, an increase of 31.8% compared to July. Next are the markets: India 1,986 tonnes (up 205.1%); China 1,465 tonnes (down 25.2%); UAE 1,234 tonnes (up 124.0%).
Leading exports in August was Olam Vietnam with 1,862 tonnes, an increase of 8.2% compared to the previous month; Nedspipce 1,544 tonnes (up 35.2%); Pearl 1,154 tonnes (up 1.2%); Phuc Sinh 1,084 tonnes (up 22.2%).
Thus, compared to previously published data from the General Statistics Office, the amount of pepper exported by the Association is higher, but the export price is lower.
By the end of August 2023, Vietnam exported 187,755 tonnes of pepper of all kinds, of which black pepper of 168,643 tonnes and white pepper of 19,112 tonnes. Total export turnover reached 616.1 million USD, of which black pepper of 525.4 million USD, and white pepper of 90.7 million USD.
Compared to the same period last year, the export volume increased by 15.1%, equivalent to 24,625 tonnes, however, the export turnover decreased by 15%, equivalent to a decrease of 108.9 million USD. The average export price of black pepper in the first 8 months of 2023 reached 3,523 USD/tonne and white pepper reached 5,058 USD/tonne.
China continues to be Vietnam's largest pepper export market in the first 8 months of 2023 with 53,792 tonnes, an increase of 454.8% and accounting for 28.7% of the market share. Next is the US with 33,589 tonnes, down 10.6%, accounting for 17.9% market share. Exports to some European markets also decreased such as Germany 6,125 tonnes, down 20.0%; Netherlands 5,522 tonnes, down 10.1%; Russia 3,490 tonnes, down 7.2%. African region exports increased by 13.2%, of which Egypt increased by 47.5% to 3,113 tonnes; Senegal 1,763 tonnes, up 53.2%.
