 Thursday, September 7,2023

AsemconnectVietnam - On Thursday domestic pepper prices in Vietnam's Central Highlands rose by 500 VND to VND70,500 to VND73,500 per kg compared to Yesterday, according to Kinhtedothi.vn.

In Ba Ria-Vung Tau province, the maximum price for pepper rose to VND73,500 per kg, while in Gia Lai province, the lowest price to VND70,500 per kg. Farmers in Binh Phuoc sold pepper for VND72,500 per kilogram, in Dong Nai province for VND71,000 per kilogram, and in Dak Lak and Dak Nong provinces for VND71,500 per kilogram.
According to experts, the Chinese market has resumed purchasing activities, along with demand from Europe and the US for orders in the fourth quarter of 2023.
According to the latest data from the General Statistics Office, Vietnam's pepper exports in August reached 16,009 tonnes, up 4.9% compared to July, but down 13.4% over the same period last year.
Export turnover in August reached 60.01 million USD, up 5.4% compared to July but down 20.2% over the same period last year. In the first 8 months of 2023, pepper exports reached 183,919 tonnes, up 14.5% over the same period in 2022.
The average export price of Vietnamese pepper in August increased for the third consecutive month, and reached the highest level in the past 10 months at 3,748 USD, up 5% compared to July.
With an export volume equal to the last harvest, the inventory from previous years will be used for export until the next harvest in 2024, which is still 5-6 months away.
It is predicted that this situation will lead to shortages and push prices higher, because inventories from previous years are still held by farmers, traders and export companies with strong financial foundations.
At the end of the most recent trading session, the International Pepper Community (IPC) listed Lampung (Indonesia) black pepper price at 4,330 USD/tonne, down 0.3%; Brazilian black pepper ASTA 570 at 3,350 USD/tonne; Kuching black pepper price (Malaysia) ASTA kept at USD 4,900/tonne.
Muntok white pepper price is 6,481 USD/tonne, down 0.31%; Malaysia ASTA white pepper price is still at 7,300 USD/tonne.
Vietnam black pepper price traded at 3,500 USD/tonne with 500 g/l grade, 550 g/l grade at 3,600 USD/tonne; White pepper price is at 5,100 USD/tonne. IPC continues to adjust pepper prices in Indonesia as the harvest in some localities comes to an end.
