DAILY: Vietnamese pepper prices increased by 500 VND on September 6

AsemconnectVietnam - On Wednesday, domestic pepper prices in Vietnam's Central Highlands rose by 500 VND to VND70,000 to VND73,000 per kg compared to Yesterday, according to Kinhtedothi.vn.

In Ba Ria-Vung Tau province, the maximum price for pepper rose to VND73,000 per kg, while in Gia Lai province, the lowest price to VND70,000 per kg. Farmers in Binh Phuoc sold pepper for VND72,500 per kilogram, in Dong Nai province for VND71,000 per kilogram, and in Dak Lak and Dak Nong provinces for VND71,500 per kilogram.
At the end of the most recent trading session, the International Pepper Community (IPC) listed Lampung (Indonesia) black pepper price at 4,343 USD/tonne, down 0.09%; Brazilian black pepper price ASTA 570 is at 3,350 USD/tonne; Kuching (Malaysia) ASTA black pepper price remained at 4,900 USD/tonne.
Muntok white pepper price 6,501 USD/tonne, down 0.08%; Malaysian ASTA white pepper price is still at 7,300 USD/tonne.
Vietnam black pepper price is trading at 3,500 USD/tonne with 500 g/l type, 550 g/l type at 3,600 USD/tonne; White pepper price is at 5,100 USD/tonne. In Indonesia, the increasing selling force as the crop nears the end of the season pushed pepper prices in this country down slightly in recent days.
The scale of pepper cultivation in Indonesia continues to decrease in recent years. This country recorded the highest output decline in 2022, with a decrease of about 22% compared to 2021. This index is forecast to continue to decrease by 15% in 2023.
Many pepper farmers in main producing countries such as Vietnam, Brazil, and Indonesia are gradually switching to growing other crops with higher value. According to assessments, the current harvest from pepper in Vietnam is the lowest compared to some other crops such as coffee, passion fruit, and durian.
Commenting on the market last week, the Vietnam Pepper and Spice Association said there was mixed reaction when only the price of Indonesian white pepper recorded a decrease.
Accordingly, in South Asia, Indian pepper prices recorded an increase in the past 2 weeks. While the domestic price of pepper in Sri Lanka increased compared to the previous week.
In Southeast Asia, Indonesian black pepper prices tend to increase during the week. While white pepper prices recorded a decrease as some farmers ended the harvest.
Domestic and international Malaysian pepper prices were stable and unchanged last week.
Domestic black pepper prices in Vietnam continued to decline in the past 3 weeks. Meanwhile, other categories remained unchanged because the market was quite quiet.
