 Wednesday, September 6,2023

AsemconnectVietnam - In the first eight months of 2023, China, the United States and Japan continued to be the three major export markets of Vietnam's agricultural, forestry and fishery products.

According to the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development, in August of 2023, Vietnam’s exports of agricultural, forestry and fishery products were estimated at 4.36 billion USD, down by 6.5% over the same period last year.
In the first 8 months of 2023, due to the decrease in export value of many main export products compared to the same period last year, the total export turnover was estimated at 33.21 billion USD, down by 9.5%. In which, the export turnover of aquatic products reached 5.68 billion USD, down by 25.4%; the exports of forest products reached 8.95 billion USD, down by 25.1%; while the exports of production input reached 1.32 billion USD, down by 21.9%.
Some groups of products with increased export value such as agricultural products reached 16.9 billion USD, up by 11.5%. The result was thanks to the contribution of the export value of vegetables and fruits, reaching 3.45 billion USD, up by 57.5%; rice exports reached 3.17 billion USD, up by 36.1%; cashew nut exports reached 2.23 billion USD, up by 8.9%; coffee exports reached 2.94 billion USD, up by 2.3%; and the exports of livestock products reached 325 million USD, up by 26.1%.
Regarding the market, in the first eight months of 2023, China, the United States and Japan continued to be the three largest export markets; in which the export value to the Chinese market accounted for 21.9%, up by 9.8%; the exports to the United States accounted for 20.6%, down by 27.4% and to Japan accounted for 7.6%, down by 10.6%.
According to the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development, in August of this year, in the domestic market, the prices of agricultural, forestry and fishery products in general did not fluctuate abnormally, the supply of essential goods was guaranteed. Particularly, the price of paddy and rice continued to increase due to the impact of the world market, causing high demand (average price increased from 200-800 VND/kg).
The price of live pigs tends to decrease slightly in the month (average from 1,000 to 2,000 VND/kg), the purchase price of raw shrimp continues to be low and tends to decrease (10,000 VND/kg), the price of fruit in one area. The number of southern provinces tends to increase due to the decrease in supply when the main season is over (dragon, mango).
In the coming time, the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development will coordinate with the Ministry of Industry and Trade to closely monitor and promptly report to the Price Management Steering Committee and the Domestic Market Management Team on the situation of production and supply. Agricultural products are in the harvest season, prices fluctuate, especially those that are heavily affected by the world market such as rice.
To implement Directive No. 24/CT-TTg dated August 5, 2023 of the Prime Minister on firmly ensuring national food security and promoting sustainable rice production and export in the current period; the related agencies will guide localities to regulate production plans and promote exports as well as step up negotiations and open up official export markets; and proactively handle food insecurity incidents, warning shipments in the import market and negotiate to deal with technical barriers, expanding food safety export markets.
