Meanwhile, Thailand’s 5% broken rice is sold at 628 USD per tonne, and that of Pakistan at 598 USD a tonne.
In the Mekong Delta – the largest rice granary of Vietnam, the price of paddy rice remains at an unprecedented high level in many localities, helping farmers achieve good profits.
In July, the United Nations Food and Agriculture Organisation (FAO)'s rice price index rose to its highest level in nearly 12 years. The move was due to a spike in prices in key rice exporting countries after India imposed export restrictions.
Recently, the Vietnamese Ministry of Industry and Trade announced the list of 210 businesses that are eligible to export rice.
According to the ministry, in the first seven months of this year, Vietnam exported 4.83 million tonnes of rice. The country plans to export about 2.67 million tonnes in the remaining five months of the year.
210 businesses eligible to export rice

Ho Chi Minh City is the locality with the largest number, 47.
According to the ministry, in the first seven months of this year, Vietnam exported 4.83 million tonnes of rice. The country plans to export about 2.67 million tonnes in the remaining five months of the year.Meanwhile, the prices of exported rice have been increasing. According to the Vietnam Food Association (VFA), the country offered the prices of 628-632 USD per tonne of 5% broken rice on August 17, an increase of 5 USD per tonne from the previous day.The price of 25% broken rice also increased from 603-607 USD per tonne to 608-612 USD per tonne.
On August 17, Vietnam's 5% broken rice and 25% broken rice was 15 USD and 47 USD per tonne higher than Thailand's, respectively.
To create the best conditions for rice export activities, the ministry is urgently seeking opinions to amend and supplement the Government’s decree on the rice exporting business.
Ministry building long-term strategy on rice exports, market stabilisation
The Ministry of Industry and Trade (MoIT) is building a long-term strategy on rice export and market stabilisation, following bans by several countries, according to Deputy Director of the MoIT's Import-Export Department Tran Quoc Toan.
Toan said that export bans by India, the United Arab Emirates and Russia, adverse impacts of El Nino, and Russia’s withdrawal from the Black Sea grain deal have strongly influenced the global rice supply, thus raising concerns about world food security as well as affecting the economic recovery of many countries as the inflation situation has not improved.
He cited data of the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development as saying that so far this year, the country has been planting 7.1 million hectares of the grain, with a total estimated output of around 43.1 million tonnes, 452,000 tonnes higher than that of the previous year. With the yield, in addition to serving domestic needs, Vietnam can export over 7.5 million tonnes this year. In the first seven months, 4.83 million tonnes were shipped abroad.
At present, the MoIT is continuing to closely coordinate with other ministries, sectors and localities to monitor the market situation and promptly grasp difficulties and problems of relevant enterprises, so as to propose solutions to remove obstacles and facilitate rice export activities from now to the end of this year, said the official.
Organic rice farming yields fruits
The National Agricultural Extension Centre (NAEC) has initiated several organic rice production projects in localities, which are gaining more favour for their clean products, lower production costs, and contributions to land improvement and enhanced grain value.
The organic rice production model, coupled with product consumption links, has so far been deployed in the north-central provinces of Nghe An, Ha Tinh, and Quang Tri, spanning an area of 240 hectares.
According to statistics, the yield from the model hit 6.38 tonnes per hectare, marking a 10% increase in efficiency compared to conventional methods. By employing organic production processes and using biologically-based products, safe rice is produced, leading to a 20% increase in profits for farmers compared to traditional rice cultivation.
One of the active participants in organic rice production, the Que Lam Group has expanded this model nationwide. Ton That Thanh, a representative of the enterprise, elaborated its no-chemicals production began in the central province of Thua Thien-Hue.
