AsemconnectVietnam - On Friday, domestic pepper prices in Vietnam's Central Highlands decreased by 500 VND to VND69,000 to VND71,500 per kg compared to Yesterday, according to Kinhtedothi.vn.

In Ba Ria-Vung Tau province, the maximum price for pepper fell to VND71,500 per kg, while in Gia Lai province, the lowest price stayed at VND69,000 per kg. Farmers in Binh Phuoc sold pepper for VND70,500 per kilogram, in Dong Nai province for VND69,000 per kilogram, and in Dak Lak and Dak Nong provinces for VND70,000 per kilogram.
At the end of the latest trading session, the International Pepper Community (IPC) listed the price of Lampung black pepper (Indonesia) at $4,255/tonne; Brazilian black pepper ASTA 570 at 3,350 USD/tonne; Kuching black pepper price (Malaysia) ASTA kept at USD 4,900/tonne.
Muntok white pepper price 6,626 USD/tonne; Malaysia ASTA white pepper price is still at 7,300 USD/tonne.
Vietnam black pepper price traded at 3,500 USD/ton with 500 g/l grade, 550 g/l grade at 3,600 USD/ton; white pepper price at 5,100 USD/ton. The world pepper market moved sideways in the last session.
According to statistics, the current price of Brazilian pepper has increased by about 18% compared to the beginning of the year, 10% higher than the same period last year due to difficulties in purchasing from traders. Brazilian farmers store more pepper.
Generally in the first 7 months of this year, the country that imported the highest Brazilian pepper was still Vietnam with an import volume of 8,411 tonnes, followed by Senegal with 4,793 tonnes, followed by Morocco 4,267 tonnes, the UAE 4,171 tonnes, India with 3,344 tonnes and Pakistan with 3,024 tonnes.
Due to the impact of the Covid pandemic in 2020-2021, in 2022 Vietnam's pepper export turnover to the EU decreased, but the market share reached 17.1%, only a slight decrease compared to 18.2% in 2021.
At present, it can be said that compared to Brazil, Vietnam still retains an advantage in the short term, but in the long term, it needs to continue to improve quality and exploit different market segments because the EU continuously updates and strengthens the application of new technologies sanitary and quarantine measures, green growth and sustainable development criteria for imported agricultural products.
Therefore, besides the competitive advantage in price, Vietnamese enterprises need to aim to compete by satisfying strict requirements and criteria from the EU to maintain their position and expand to other markets.
