DAILY: Vietnamese pepper prices remained unchanged on August 11

AsemconnectVietnam - On Friday, domestic pepper prices in Vietnam's Central Highlands remained unchanged at VND71,000 to VND74,000 per kg compared to Yesterday, according to Kinhtedothi.vn.

In Ba Ria-Vung Tau province, the maximum price for pepper stayed at VND74,000 per kg, while in Gia Lai province, the lowest price at VND71,000 per kg. Farmers in Binh Phuoc sold pepper for VND73,000 per kilogram, in Dong Nai province for VND71,000 per kilogram, and in Dak Lak and Dak Nong provinces for VND72,000 per kilogram.
According to the Vietnam Pepper and Spices Association, in July 2023, Vietnam exported 15,152 tonnes of pepper of all kinds, of which, black pepper reached 12,841 tonnes and white pepper reached 2,311 tonnes. Total export turnover reached 58.6 million USD ( black pepper reached 45.0 million USD, white pepper reached 11.8 million USD), decreased by 28.6% in volume and by 26.3% in turnover compared to the previous month.
The average export price of black pepper in July was 3,683 USD/tonne, down 0.3% month on month and white pepper was 5,207 USD/tonne, down 1.1% month on month.
Olam, Nedspipce and Pearl were the three largest exporters in July, reaching 1,722 tons, 1,142 tonnes and 1,140 tonnes, respectively. Meanwhile, the US continues to be Vietnam's largest pepper export market in July with 3,319 tonnes, but down 30.9% compared to the previous month. Exports to China also dropped sharply by 53.4% to 1,958 tonnes.
In the first 7 months of this year, Vietnam exported 168,138 tonnes of pepper of all kinds, of which black pepper reached 151,218 tonnes and white pepper reached 16,920 tonnes. Total export turnover reached 542.7 million USD, of which, black pepper reached 463.0 million USD and white pepper reached 79.7 million USD.
Compared to the same period last year, export volume increased by 16.6% or 23,962 tonnes, however, export turnover decreased by 16.2%, equivalent to 104.7 million USD. The average export price of black pepper in the first 7 months of 2023 reached US$3,505/tonne, and white pepper reached US$5,040/tonne.
Although exports to the Chinese market have decreased in the last 2 months, on average, China is still Vietnam's main export market, reaching 52,327 tonnes, accounting for 31.1% of export market share and increasing by 665 % over the same period in 2022.
Followed by the US with 29,213 tonnes, accounting for 17.4% and down 11.1%. Exports to some other traditional markets also decreased such as UAE down 34.9%; India down 37.9%; Germany down 21.5%; Netherlands decreased by 13.3%. Only a few markets recorded positive export volume such as Türkiye up 81.4%; France increased by 36.4%; Philippines up 25.0% and Iran up 27.9%….
Enterprises in the Association of Exporters accounted for 60.6% of the market share and decreased by 17.4% over the same period of last year, of which Pearl was the leading exporter of 11,066 tonnes, accounting for 6.6% and down 39.3% compared to the same period last year. Followed by enterprises: Nedspice: 10,684 tonnes, down 3.6%; Olam: 10,214 tonnes, down 39.4%.
