DAILY: Vietnamese pepper prices remained unchanged on August 7

 Monday, August 7,2023

AsemconnectVietnam - On Monday, domestic pepper prices in Vietnam's Central Highlands remained unchanged at VND71,000 – VND74,500 per kg compared to Yesterday, according to Kinhtedothi.vn.

In Ba Ria-Vung Tau province, the maximum price for pepper stayed at VND74,500 per kg, while in Gia Lai province, the lowest price to VND71,000 per kg. Farmers in Binh Phuoc sold pepper for VND73,500 per kilogram, in Dong Nai province for VND71,500 per kilogram, and in Dak Lak and Dak Nong provinces for VND72,000 per kilogram.
According to the General Statistics Office, in the first 7 months of 2023, Vietnam's pepper exports reached 169,000 tonnes, valued at 542 million USD, up 18.6% in volume, down 15.1% in turnover compared to the same period in 2022. Pepper exports price in this period averaged 3,214 USD/tonne, down 28.4% over the same period in 2022.
It is forecasted that global pepper production in 2023 will continue to decrease by about 1% compared to 2022 to 531 thousand tonnes. Recognizing the fact, many pepper farmers in the main producing countries such as Vietnam, Brazil, Indonesia are gradually switching to other crops with higher value. Therefore, the forecast of global pepper production continues to decrease.
Recently, a prolonged flood has affected pepper growing areas in the Central Highlands. In fact, many pepper gardens are flooded, causing concerns about reduced yield for the next year's harvest. Experts said that due to the above reasons, the price of pepper continued to have a positive trend this week.
However, there will not be a 6-day consecutive increase like the first week of August 2023. The market will see resistance to the increasing momentum of pepper, along with new crops in Indonesia and Brazil continue to be on the market. Although it did not increase sharply, it is expected that domestic pepper prices will regain the mark of 75,000 VND/kg.
Following are domestic pepper prices on August 7, 2023, in the main pepper growing and consumption regions:
