DAILY: Vietnamese pepper prices rose by 1000 VND on August 1

 Tuesday, August 1,2023

AsemconnectVietnam - On Tuesday, domestic pepper prices in Vietnam's Central Highlands increased by 1000 VND to VND68,000 – VND71,500 per kg compared to Yesterday, according to Kinhtedothi.vn.

In Ba Ria-Vung Tau province, the maximum price for pepper rose to VND71,500 per kg, while in Gia Lai province, the lowest price at VND68,000 per kg. Farmers in Binh Phuoc sold pepper for VND70,500 per kilogram, in Dong Nai province for VND69,000 per kilogram, and in Dak Lak and Dak Nong provinces for VND69,000 per kilogram.
The supply of coffee in the world market continues to be threatened, the new crop is hoarded by farmers waiting for high prices instead of being put on the market soon.
Last week, the market continued to be quiet because purchases from China and Pakistan were still weak, while the US and EU markets were still waiting for a new amount of pepper harvested from Brazil and Indonesia.
Indonesia's domestic market is considered stable with little demand, mainly for export. Speculators in this market are also increasing buying when seeing the supply and demand picture from now to the end of the year.
As for Brazil, farmers have more holding mentality, causing shippers in this country to stop offering for sale from week 30. Besides, coffee trees are being traded strongly, which has attracted capital from pepper. In addition, shipping and exports at the port of Vitória are facing difficulties. The above information caused pepper prices in Brazil to increase by 10% in the past 2 weeks. Many information forecast that Brazil's crop will decrease by 15-20% compared to the crop in 2022. This has caused farmers/dealers to increase hoarding and less offering to the market.
In India, pepper prices increased by 20% in the past week. The main reason is due to the sudden increase in demand from the domestic market. Besides, in the Kerala region, which is the main pepper production area of India, heavy rains have caused pepper production to decrease by 30-32%.
Following are domestic pepper prices on August 1, 2023, in the main pepper growing and consumption regions:
