DAILY: Vietnamese coffee prices increased by 400 VDN on July 28

AsemconnectVietnam - On Fridday, Robusta coffee prices in Vietnam's Central Highlands, the country's largest coffee-growing area rose by 400 VND to VND67,100 – VND67,800 per kg compared to Yesterday, according to Kinhtedothi.

Trading activity in Vietnam's coffee market continued on a subdued note on empty stockpile.
Gia Nghia of Dak Nong provided the maximum price of VND67,800/kg, while traders in Lam Dong province offered the lowest price of VND67,100/kg. Robusta coffee increased to VND67,100 in Bao Loc, Di Linh, and Lam Ha; to VND67,500 – VND67,600 per kg in Dak Lak; to VND67,700 – VND67,800 per kg in Dak Nong; to VND67,400 per kg in Kon Tum, and to VND67,400 - VND67,500 per kg in Gia Lai.
According to the Import-Export Department, Ministry of Industry and Trade, in the first half of the year, coffee exports to the Dutch market increased sharply to 24.72 thousand tonnes, valued at nearly 61.4 million USD, up 34.3% in volume and 55.5% in value over the same period.
According to the General Statistics Office, in the first 6 months of 2023, Vietnam exported 1.02 million tonnes of coffee, valued at 2.4 billion USD (down 2.2% in volume but up 3% in value over the same period in 2022). This is the highest level of coffee export turnover in the first 6 months of the year in the past 10 years of Vietnam.
With this achievement, experts say, it is likely that Vietnam will reach a turnover of 4 billion USD in coffee exports in 2023 after recording a record of 4.06 billion USD in 2022.
However, according to the Import-Export Department, in the main coffee export markets of Vietnam, in June and the first 6 months of 2023, coffee exports to the Netherlands market increased sharply. Specifically, in June 2023, Vietnam's coffee exports to the Netherlands market reached 4.65 thousand tonnes, worth 11.61 million USD, up 30.9% in volume and 34.1% in value compared to May 2023; an increase of 140% in volume and 190.7% increase in value compared to June 2022.
Generally in the first 6 months of 2023, Vietnam's coffee exports to the Netherlands reached 24.72 thousand tonnes, valued at nearly 61.4 million USD, up 34.3% in volume and 55.5% in value compared with the same period last year.
Regarding price movements, the Import-Export Department said that in June 2023, the average export price of Vietnamese coffee to the Netherlands market reached $2,495/tonne, up 2.5% over May 2023 and increased 21.0% compared to June 2022. Generally in the first 6 months of 2023, the average export price of Vietnamese coffee to the Netherlands reached 2,483 USD/tonne, up 15.9% over the same period last year.
Regarding the type structure, in the first 6 months of 2023, the structure of Vietnamese coffee exports to the Netherlands has changed significantly. In 2022, the proportion of Robusta coffee exports to the Netherlands accounted for 84.86% and by 2023, the proportion had decreased to 77.02%.
Similarly, the proportion of processed coffee exports to the Netherlands market also decreased from 4.96% in the first 6 months of 2022 to 3.81% in the first 6 months of 2023. Instead, Vietnam boosted exports of Arabica coffee, the proportion increased from 10.17% in the first 6 months of 2022 to 19.18% in the first 6 months of 2023.
It is forecasted that coffee exports in the coming time will decrease significantly in volume but export prices will continue to increase due to a decrease in supply.
