Vietnam’s imports of raw materials for animal feed production in first 6 months of 2023

AsemconnectVietnam - The preliminary statistics figures of the General Department of Customs showed that, Vietnam’s corn imports of all kinds in the first 6 months of 2023 reached over 3.71 million tonnes, worth of over 1.24 billion USD.

Meanwhile, in the first 6 months of 2023, the country's import of wheat reached over 2.48 million tonnes, equivalent to over 892.14 million USD; and soybean imports reached nearly 1.12 million tonnes, worth of nearly 728.13 million USD.
Vietnam’s corn imports in June and the first 6 months of 2023
Vietnam’s corn imports of all kinds in the first 6 months of 2023 reached over 3.71 million tonnes, worth of over 1.24 billion USD, the average price was 332.7 USD/tonne, down by 18.4% in volume, down by 23% in turnover and 5.7% in price compared to the first 6 months of 2022, showed the preliminary statistics figures of the General Department of Customs.
In June of 2023 alone, the country’s imports of corn reached 505,602 tonnes, equivalent to 155.38 million USD, the average price was 307.3 USD/tonne, an increase of 26.8% in volume and an increase of 18.3% in turnover compared to May of 2023, the price decreased by 6.7%. In comparison to June of 2022, it also dropped sharply by 49.5% in volume, 59.6% in turnover and 19.9% in price.
Leading corn import markets in the first 6 months of 2023
Brazil was the main market supplying corn to Vietnam in the first 6 months of 2023, accounting for over 37% of the country's total corn import volume and turnover, reaching 1.38 million tonnes, equivalent to nearly 459.87 million USD, with the price of 333.4 USD/tonne, increased sharply by 298.6% in volume, 307.2 % in turnover and 2.2% in price compared to the first six months of 2022.
The second largest market was Argentina. In the first 6 months of 2023, the country’s imports of corn from Argentina reached 1.1 million tonnes, equivalent to 366.3 million USD, priced at 333.1 USD/tonne, accounting for nearly 30% of the total volume and total corn import turnover the whole country, a decrease of 60.7% in volume, a decrease of 63.5% in turnover and a decrease of 7.1% in price compared to the first six months of 2022.
The next was the Indian market with 950,362 tonnes in the first 6 months of 2023, equivalent to 299.67 million USD, priced at 315.3 USD/tonne, accounting for over 25.6% of the total volume and 24.3% of the total corn import turnover of the whole country, increased by 50.4% in volume, up by 45.2% in turnover, but the price decreased by 3.5% over the same period last year.
Vietnam’s wheat imports in June and the first 6 months of 2023
In the first 6 months of 2023, Vietnam's imported wheat volume reached over 2.48 million tonnes, equivalent to over 892.14 million USD, up by 10.4% in volume, up by 6.9% in turnover compared the same period of 2022.
According to the preliminary statistics figures of the General Department of Customs, in June of 2023, the whole country imported 447,051 tonnes of wheat, equivalent to 150.23 million USD, the average price was 336 USD/tonne, an increase of 18% in volume and by 1.4% of turnover compared to May of 2023, but the price decreased by 14%. In comparison with June of 2022, it increased sharply by 45.5% in volume, increased by 31.3% in turnover but decreased by 9.8% in price.
Generally in the first 6 months of 2023, the country's wheat imports reached over 2.48 million tonnes, equivalent to over 892.14 million USD, up by 10.4% in volume, up by 6.9% in turnover compared to in the first 6 months of 2022, the average price reached 359.6 USD/tonne, a slight decrease of 3.1%.
Leading wheat import markets in June and the first 6 months of 2023
In June of 2023, the country’s wheat imports from the main market Australia increased sharply by 52.4% in volume, up by 29.3% in turnover but decreased by 15.2% in price compared to May of 2023, reaching 416,369 tonnes, equivalent to 138.48 million USD, the price was at 332.6 USD/tonne. In comparison with June of 2022, the figure also increased 54.2% in volume, increased 37.2% in turnover but decreased 11% in price. For the whole 6 months of 2023, wheat imports from the Australian market accounted for 72.4% of the total volume and 70.4% of the total wheat import turnover of the whole country, reaching nearly 1.8 million tonnes, equivalent to 628.17 million USD, the average price was 349.7 USD/tonne, up by 19.2% in volume, up by 11.6% in turnover but down by 6.4% in price compared to the first 6 months of 2022.
Besides Australia's main market, Brazil accounted for nearly 11% of the total volume and turnover, reaching 261,611 tonnes, equivalent to 95.82 million USD, the average price was 366.3 USD/tonne, down by 19% in volume, down by 14.9% in turnover but up by 5% in price compared to the first 6 months of 2022.
The next was the US market with 171,616 tonnes, equivalent to 70.28 million USD, priced at 409.5 USD/tonne, a sharp increase of 60.9% in volume, 46.7% increase in turnover but a decrease of 8.8% in price compared to the same period of 2022, accounting for 6.9% of the total volume and 7.9% of the total import turnover of wheat of the country.
Wheat imports from the Canadian market reached 161,692 tonnes, equivalent to 67.13 million USD, a sharp increase of 3,228% in volume and 2,849% in turnover compared to the first 6 months of 2022.
Vietnam’s soybean imports in June and the first 6 months of 2023
In the first 6 months of 2023, Vietnam imported nearly 1.12 million tonnes of soybeans, worth of nearly 728.13 million USD, with an average price of 651.2 USD/tonne.
According to the preliminary statistics figures of the General Department of Customs, Vietnam’s soybean imports in June of 2023 reached 240,419 tonnes, equivalent to 140.15 million USD, the average price was 583 USD/tonne, up by 70.6% in volume and up by 62 .2% of turnover compared to May of 2023, but the price decreased by 4.9%. In comparison to June of 2022, it also increased by 107.6% in volume, increased by 63.9% in turnover but decreased by 21% in price.
In the first 6 months of 2023, the whole country imported 1.12 million tonnes of soybeans, worth of nearly 728.13 million USD, the average price was 651.2 USD/tonne, up 8.4% in volume, up by 3.4% turnover but decreased by 4.6% in price compared to the first 6 months of 2022.
Leading soybean import markets in June and the first 6 months of 2023
The US market was leading the list of the country’s main soybean import markets. In June of 2023, the country’s imports of soybean from the U.S continued to plummet by nearly 58% in both volume and value compared to May of 2023, the price decreased slightly by 0.03%, reaching 23,466 tonnes, equivalent to 15.09 million USD, priced at 642.9 USD/tonne. In general, in the first 6 months of 2023, Vietnam’s soybean imports from this market reached 467,497 tonnes, equivalent to 320.55 million USD, accounting for 41.8% of the total volume and 44% of the total soybean import turnover of the whole country, increased sharply by 28.3% in volume, 32% in turnover, the price increased by 2.9% over the same period last year.
Soybean imports from Brazil market - the second largest market in the first 6 months of 2023 reached 521,557 tonnes, equivalent to 319.35 million USD, priced at 612.3 USD/tonne, accounting for 46.7% of the total volume and accounting for 43.9% of the country's total soybean import turnover, down by 14% in volume, by 23.7% in turnover and by 11.3% in price over the same period last year.
In addition, soybean imports from the Canadian market in the first six months of 2023 reached 65,104 tonnes, equivalent to over 48 million USD, the price was at 737.2 USD per tonne, up by 23% in volume, by 28.4% in turnover and the price increased by 4.4% over the same period last year. The imports from Cambodia market reached 320 tonnes, equivalent to 251,300 USD, priced at 785.3 USD/tonne, down by 95% in both volume and value but up by 4.4% in price.
