 Monday, July 24,2023

AsemconnectVietnam - On Monday, domestic pepper prices in Vietnam's Central Highlands remained unchanged at VND67,000 – VND70,000 per kg compared to Yesterday, according to Kinhtedothi.vn.

In Ba Ria-Vung Tau province, the maximum price for pepper stayed at VND70,000 per kg, while in Gia Lai province, the lowest price at VND67,000 per kg. Farmers in Binh Phuoc sold pepper for VND69,000 per kilogram, in Dong Nai province for VND67,500 per kilogram, and in Dak Lak and Dak Nong provinces for VND68,000 per kilogram.
According to the Vietnam Pepper and Spices Association, in the first 15 days of July, 2023, Vietnam exported 7,039 tonnes of pepper, of which black pepper reached 5,980 tonnes, white pepper reached 1,059 tonnes. Total export turnover reached 25.9 million USD.
According to the preliminary data report of the Customs, exports in the first half of July 2023 reached 7,063 tonnes of pepper, valued at $26.05 million, bringing the export of the first 6.5 months of the year to 159,715 tonnes, up 20.39% in volume and down 14.75% in value over the same period last year. The average export price of pepper in the period reached 3,688 USD/tonne, up 2.08% compared to the average export price of June 2023.
Last week, domestic pepper prices were flat. While the world pepper market reacted quite positively and the price did not decrease. Commenting on the market this week, experts do not forecast much change.
Along with the ongoing harvest in Indonesia, farmers in the province of Espírito Santo - Brazil's largest pepper growing locality are also in the season. According to initial assessment, the previous excessive rain affected pepper production this year. Espírito Santo is also a major pepper producing region, and the record-high pepper prices will encourage traders to sell their pepper reserves, to invest in the  pepper trade. Therefore, it is expected that a large number of pepper products will come to the market in the near future.
It must also be added that the custom of Brazilian farmers, businesses, and home buyers, the harvest is to sell, not to store much, willing to sacrifice a part of the profit. So with the advantage that the output is still lower than Vietnam, it is always easier to sell and therefore reduces the risk more if there is a market fluctuation.
The latest Ned Spice report says that while the harvest is underway in both Indonesia and Brazil, the total new volume available for export will not exceed 50,000 tonnes in the next three months.
Crop scale in Indonesia continued its downward trend over the years. This country recorded the highest production decline in 2022, with a decrease of about 22% compared to 2021. This index is forecasted to continue to decrease by 15% in 2023. This decline may cause the market of Indonesian pepper to supply the world to decrease from 12% in 2022 to 10% in 2023.
Many pepper farmers in the main producing countries such as Vietnam, Brazil, Indonesia are gradually switching to other crops with higher value. According to the assessment, currently collected from pepper in Vietnam is the lowest compared to some other crops such as coffee, passion fruit, durian.
Regarding the market, China will strictly control to meet compliance requirements on quality standards, regulations on traceability, even for goods exchanged by border residents.
