DAILY: Vietnamese coffee prices remained unchanged on July 24

 Monday, July 24,2023

AsemconnectVietnam - On Monday, Robusta coffee prices in Vietnam's Central Highlands, the country's largest coffee-growing area remained unchanged at VND66,200 – VND67,000 per kg compared to Yesterday, according to Kinhtedothi.

Gia Nghia of Dak Nong provided the maximum price of VND67,000/kg, while traders in Lam Dong province offered the lowest price of VND66,200/kg. Robusta coffee remained unchanged at VND66,200 in Bao Loc, Di Linh, and Lam Ha; at VND66,600 – VND66,700 per kg in Dak Lak; at VND66,900 – VND67,000 per kg in Dak Nong; at VND66,500 per kg in Kon Tum, and at VND66,400 - VND66,500 per kg in Gia Lai.

After a year of off-cycle production, higher-than-average fertilizer costs and a dip in planted area, Vietnam is expected to see a 6% increase in total coffee production in market year 2023/24.
This is according to the most recent USDA Foreign Agriculture Service (FAS) report on the Vietnam coffee sector, which anticipates that exports from Vietnam will see significant drop in 2023/24, despite the increased production.

The drop is expected due to lower in-country green coffee stocks following a period of higher prices, as well as stricter EU import regulations taking effect later this year.
Overall, production from the world’s second-largest coffee-producing country — arabica and robusta combined — is expected to increase to the equivalent of 31.3 million 60-kilo bags, while exports are expected to decline by about 4% to 27.5 million bags due to lower stocks.

Despite the reduced stock volume, the report is optimistic about the export market potential, particularly for robusta.
According to the General Department of Customs of Vietnam, the average price of Vietnam's coffee exports reached 2,682 USD per ton in June 2023, which is an increase of 4.4% compared that of May and 17% over the same period last year. Vietnam's coffee exports are currently at their highest price point within the last ten years.
Domestically, the Central Highlands provinces saw a peak in the price of Robusta coffee beans at 66,700 to 66,900 VND per kilogram by the end of June 2023. This is an increase of 65 to 67% compared to that of early 2023. Additionally, this is the highest price point in the history of Vietnam's coffee industry.

Vietnam exported 150,000 tons of coffee in June 2023 for a turnover of 392 million USD; this is an increase of 9.1% in volume and 24.3% in value compared to June 2022. Overall, Vietnam exported 1 million tons of coffee with a turnover of 2.4 billion USD in the first half of 2023; this is a decrease of 3.1% in volume but an increase of 2.3% in value over the same period in 2022. This is also the highest recorded export turnover achieved by the coffee industry within the first six months of a year.
