DAILY: Vietnamese coffee prices rose by 1800 VND on June 16

 Friday, June 16,2023

AsemconnectVietnam - On Friday, Robusta coffee prices in Vietnam's Central Highlands, the country's largest coffee-growing area increased by 1800 VND to VND 66,100 - VND 66,800 per kg compared to Yesterday, according to Nongnghiep.vn.

Gia Nghia of Dak Nong provided the maximum price of VND66,800/kg, while traders in Lam Dong province offered the lowest price of VND66,100/kg. Robusta coffee increased to VND66,100 per kg in Bao Loc, Di Linh, and Lam Ha; to VND 66,600 – VND66,700 per kg in Dak Lak; to VND 66,700 – VND 66,800 per kg in Dak Nong; to VND66,600 per kg in Kon Tum, and to VND66,300 - VND65,400 per kg in Gia Lai.
Domestic prices rose further in Vietnam this week on supply shortage concerns after El Niño's return was confirmed, while prices also remained high in Indonesia with output estimated to be 20% lower this year, traders said.
"Most farmers sold coffee when the prices were at 40,000 per kg so they are not really taking advantage of the high prices," said a trader based in the coffee belt. "It's very likely that prices will keep rising in the upcoming weeks."
Traders in Vietnam offered 5% black and broken-grade 2 robusta at a $120 to $140 premium per tonne to the September contract, compared with the $40 to $50 premium range last week.
Vietnam's coffee exports in the first five months of 2023 stood at 866,121 tonnes, a fall of 3.9% from the same period last year, customs data showed. Coffee export revenue for the period reached $2 billion, down 0.4% against the Jan-May period of 2022.
In the first five months of this year, Vietnam's coffee exports were estimated at 882,000 tonnes, worth more than two billion USD. The country’s average export price of coffee is at 2,295 USD per tonne, up 2.4% over the same period last year.
From now until the end of the year, coffee exports will still have good prospects when demand increases while supply is not expected to improve. It is forecast that coffee output this year will decrease by 10%-15%/year due to unfavourable weather.
