1.41 billion USD spent on importing livestock products in first 5 months of 2023

AsemconnectVietnam - According to the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development, the import value of livestock products in the first five months of 2023 reached 1.41 billion USD, down by 5.8% over the same period of 2022.

According to the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development, the import value of livestock products in May of 2023 was estimated at 355 million USD, bringing the total import value of livestock products in the first 5 months of 2023 to 1.41 billion USD, down by 5.8% over the same period of 2022.
In which, the import value of milk and dairy products was estimated at 571 million USD, up by 0.5%; while the import value of meat, meat by-products and edible animal by-products was estimated at 511 million USD, down by 3.8%.
According to the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development, the import value of animal feed and raw materials in May of 2023 is estimated at 500 million USD, bringing the total import value of animal feed and raw materials in the first 5 months of 2023 to 2.04 billion USD, down by 2% compared to the same period of 2022.
Soybean import volume in May of 2023 was estimated at 150,000 tonnes with an estimated value of 63 million USD, bringing the total volume and value of soybean imports in the first 5 months of 2023 to 887,000 tonnes and 564 million USD, down by 3.1% in volume and 8.8% decrease in value year-on-year.
The average price of imported soybeans in the first five months of 2023 was estimated at 636 USD/tonne, down by 5.9% over the same period of 2022. The United States, Brazil and Canada were the three main soybean suppliers to Vietnam in the last four months of 2023 with 95.4% of the total market share.
The country’s wheat imports in May of 2023 was estimated at 500,000 tonnes with the import value of 176 million USD, bringing the total volume and value of wheat imports in the first 5 months of 2023 to 2.16 million tonnes and 781 million USD, up by 11.1% in volume and 8.4% in value over the same period of 2022. The average price of imported wheat in the first five months of 2023 was estimated at 362 USD/tonne, down by 2.3% over the same period of 2022.
The volume of corn imported in May of 2023 was estimated at 400,000 tonnes with a value of 127 million USD, bringing the total volume and value of corn imports in the first 5 months of 2023 to 3.21 million tonnes and 1.08 billion USD, respectively.
In the opposite direction, the export value of livestock products in May of 2023 was estimated at 44 million USD, bringing the total export value of livestock products in the first 5 months of 2023 to 190 million USD, an increase of 34.5 % over the same period of 2022.
In which, the exports of milk and dairy products reached 52 million USD, up by 10.9%; meat and meat by-products and edible animal by-products reached 58 million USD, up by 59.1%.
