Da Nang: Improves investment attraction quality
The central city of Da Nang is working to build a business environment conducive for investors, based on the pillars of hi-tech industry, tourism and sea-based economy.
In its planning orientations till 2030 with a vision to 2050, the city targets attracting capital to information and communications technology (ICT), biotechnology, micro-electronic technology, mechatronics, precision engineering, environment and nano technology, among others, toward becoming a socio-economic hub in the region.
The Da Nang Hi-Tech Park (DHTP) is one of the three national advanced hi-tech parks and the only of its kind in the central – Central Highlands regions. Its infrastructure have been completed after three stages and it is striving to contribute a minimum of 10-15% of the local gross regional domestic product (GRDP) during the 2025-2030 period. Da Nang has also prepared urban infrastructure facilities in three other industrial parks to draw foreign investors.
Ho Chi Minh: FDI down 13.5% in five months
The total inflows of foreign direct investment into Ho Chi Minh City from early this year to May 20 reached over 1.14 billion USD, down 13.5% annually, reported the municipal Department of Planning and Investment. Of them, 199.8 million USD was poured into 374 new projects, down 2.5% year-on-year. Singapore took the lead in the number of new projects, with 72 ones valued at 121.5 million USD, accounting for 60.8% of the total newly-registered capital. Japan came next with 32 projects worth 16.5 million USD, or 8.3%, and Hong Kong (China) was third with 25 projects worth 11.1 million USD, equivalent to 5.6%.Up to 121 projects received additional capital of 403.3 million USD, marking an annual decrease of 35.3%. US projects recorded the most adjusted capital with 215.1 million USD, or 53.3% of the total.
Bac Giang: Reaps significant achievements in development of digital economy
The northern province of Bac Giang will pay more attention to spurring the development of the digital economy, Director of the provincial Department of Information and Communications Tran Minh Chieu has said.
Therefore, the locality will continue supporting the registration and establishment of digital tech firms, step up the application and use of digital products, and encourage businesses to participate in the Small and Medium Enterprises Support Programme for Digital Transformation (SMEdx), he said.
The provincial Department of Industry and Trade will further coordinate with the Vietnam E-commerce and Digital Economy Agency under the Ministry of Industry and Trade, domestic e-commerce platforms and banks in assisting enterprises, cooperatives, households and farmers to put their products on domestic and foreign e-commerce platforms.
In the first quarter of this year, the Department of Planning and Investment supported the establishment of 112 digital tech firms, and organised a training course on digital transformation in financial accounting for over 120 individuals.
Hanoi: Economy on path to recovery
In the first months of this year, Hanoi has focused on removing difficulties to and facilitating industrial production, export-import, public investment, and foreign investment attraction, according to a local official.Such efforts paid off as the city’s index of industrial production (IIP) expanded 2.1% year-on-year in the first five months of this year. Processing and manufacturing went up 1.7%, electricity production and distribution was up 4.1%, and water supply and waste water treatment rose 8.3%, said Vice Chairman of the municipal People’s Committee Nguyen Manh Quyen.Some sectors like beverage, tobacco and drug production, wood processing, and metal product manufacturing experienced significant year-on-year increases in the five-month period.More than 13,000 enterprises were established in the city between January and May with a total registered capital of 125.9 trillion VND (5.35 billion USD), up 8% in number and 17% in capital.
Bac Lieu: Stunning wind farm
Tourists used to visit Bac Lieu province mainly because of tales about affluent landlords with children whose lavish lifestyles gave rise to many anecdotes about “princes”. Visitors to the southern land now have other reasons, like experiencing breathtaking wind turbines rising up from the East Sea.
There is a wind farm located in the coastal area of Vinh Trach Dong commune, more than 10km from Bac Lieu city centre.This was Vietnam’s first wind power project, built in 2010 with investment in the trillions of VND.With a landscape as beautiful as a European sky, the area quickly became a tourist attraction.The arrangement of the turbines combined with local roads makes travel easy, and visitors can go from one area to another without any problems.
Da Nang: Attractive logistics centre by 2030
The central city of Da Nang targets to become an attractive logistics centre of the central key economic region by 2030, and the key gateway of the East-West Economic Corridor and an important link of the Asia-Pacific transport corridor by 2050.The target to turn Da Nang into attractive logistics centre by 2030 is set in a project on developing logistics services in the city in association with the central key economic region and the East-West Economic Corridor for the 2021-2030 period, with a vision to 2050, which has just been approved by the municipal People’s Committee.Under the plan, the logistics service industry is expected to contribute 11-12% of the city’s gross regional domestic product by 2030 and up to 15.5% by 2050.There are 1,056 enterprises operating in the field of logistics in Da Nang.
