HCM City: Economic growth to 5.87% in Q2
Ho Chi Minh City’s economic growth is expected to climb to 5.87% in the second quarter of 2023, its leader has said.It was only 0.7% in the first quarter.
Speaking at a meeting on May 30, Phan Van Mai, Chairman of the municipal People’s Committee, said the city’s economic growth in the first half is expected to be 3.55%. Public spending in the first five months is expected to be worth 10.2 trillion VND (436.4 million USD), up 24% year-on-year, he said.
The global economic decline and high inflation will continue to affect the city’s economy across the board, hindering its recovery, he said.
In May, the index of industrial production (IIP) rose by an estimated 1.5% month-on-month and 5.5% year-on-year. It was up 1.6% year-on-year in the first five months.
Hanoi: Economy on path to recovery
In the first months of this year, Hanoi has focused on removing difficulties to and facilitating industrial production, export-import, public investment, and foreign investment attraction, according to a local official.
Such efforts paid off as the city’s index of industrial production (IIP) expanded 2.1% year-on-year in the first five months of this year. Processing and manufacturing went up 1.7%, electricity production and distribution was up 4.1%, and water supply and waste water treatment rose 8.3%, said Vice Chairman of the municipal People’s Committee Nguyen Manh Quyen.
Some sectors like beverage, tobacco and drug production, wood processing, and metal product manufacturing experienced significant year-on-year increases in the five-month period.
More than 13,000 enterprises were established in the city between January and May with a total registered capital of 125.9 trillion VND (5.35 billion USD), up 8% in number and 17% in capital.
Bac Giang: Reaps significant achievements in development of digital economy
The northern province of Bac Giang will pay more attention to spurring the development of the digital economy, Director of the provincial Department of Information and Communications Tran Minh Chieu has said.
Therefore, the locality will continue supporting the registration and establishment of digital tech firms, step up the application and use of digital products, and encourage businesses to participate in the Small and Medium Enterprises Support Programme for Digital Transformation (SMEdx), he said.
The provincial Department of Industry and Trade will further coordinate with the Vietnam E-commerce and Digital Economy Agency under the Ministry of Industry and Trade, domestic e-commerce platforms and banks in assisting enterprises, cooperatives, households and farmers to put their products on domestic and foreign e-commerce platforms.
In the first quarter of this year, the Department of Planning and Investment supported the establishment of 112 digital tech firms, and organised a training course on digital transformation in financial accounting for over 120 individuals.
Binh Duong: Provincial exports bounce back in May
The southern province of Binh Duong exported 3 billion USD worth of commodities in May, up 17.1% month-on-month. Its import turnover also increased by 16.6% compared to the previous month. Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee Vo Van Minh said the local socioeconomic situation changed positively, with industrial production, trade, services, exports, and imports growing slightly. However, he noted that enterprise production and business activities faced many difficulties due to the shortage of orders; investment attraction slow down, and disbursement of public investment was low compared to the plan.The cost of some essential items increased while the employment and income of workers tended to decrease, affecting the quality of life, added the official.
Ninh Thuan: Grapefruit receives code to export to US
Grapefruit grown in Phuoc Binh commune, Bac Ai district in the south-central province of Ninh Thuan has received a farming area code, making it eligible for export to the US in the coming time.
Dang Kim Cuong, director of the provincial Department of Agriculture and Rural Development said that grapefruit is the first agricultural product of the province to get the code granted by the US Department of Agriculture (USDA)'s Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service (APHIS). The code for 23ha of grapefruit in Phuoc Binh commune will come into effect from June 22.
The Plant Protection Department under the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development said it has requested the Ninh Thuan Sub-Department of Cultivation and Plant Protection to notify the representative of the growing area with the code to seize export opportunities and ensure compliance with US regulations.
Bac Giang: Promotes sales of Tan Yen early ripening litchi
The northern province of Bac Giang’s Department of Agriculture and Rural Development on May 30 held a programme to promote sales of Tan Yen early ripening litchi, a famous specialty fruit of the district.This year, Tan Yen district has 1,340 hectares of “thieu” litchi, including 1,170 hectares of early ripening litchi with an estimated output of 15,500 tonnes, including 5,000 tonnes reaching export standards.The harvesting season of Tan Yen early ripening litchi is from late May to the end of June.The major export markets for Tan Yen Tan Yen early ripening litchi include China, Japan, the Republic of Korea, the US, the EU, Thailand and Cambodia.Currently, many companies have shown interest in and signed contracts to buy Tan Yen early ripening litchi product.
