Exports of agricultural, forestry and fishery products earned 20.26 billion USD in first 5 months of 2023

AsemconnectVietnam - In the first 5 months of 2023, Vietnam’s exports of agricultural, forestry and fishery products earned 20.26 billion USD, of which rice was still a bright spot in the export picture.

According to the report of the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development, in May of 2023, the export turnover of agricultural, forestry and fishery products was estimated at 4.85 billion USD, down by 3.5% over the same period last year. The exports of agricultural products reached 2.42 billion USD, up by 27.8%; while the exports of livestock production reached 44 million USD, up by 25.5%; and the exports of seafood reached 900 million USD, down by 14.4%; the exports of forestry products reached 1.31 billion USD, down by 12.3%; the exports of production inputs reached 178 million USD, down by 16.1% and the exports of salt reached 0.5 million USD, down by 8.6%.
In the first 5 months of 2023, many main agricultural, forestry and fishery products saw a decrease in export value compared to the same period last year, so the total export turnover was estimated at 20.26 billion USD, down by 11.1% compared to the same period last year. In the first 5 months of this year, the country’s exports agricultural products reached 10.3 billion USD, up by 9.9%; the exports of livestock production reached 190 million USD, up by 34.5%; the exports of seafood reached 3.47 billion USD, down by 25.9%; the exports of forestry products reached 5.52 billion USD, down by 26.8%; the exports of production inputs reached USD 779 million, down by 25.9% and the exports of salt reached 2.0 million USD, down by 11.9%.
Many items had higher export value than the same period last year, such as coffee with 2.02 billion USD, up by 0.2%; vegetables and fruits 1.97 billion USD, up by 39.0%; cashew nuts 1.28 million USD, up by 5.5%; meat and by-products reached 58 million USD, up by 59.1%, especially the exports of rice reached 2.02 billion USD, up by 49.0%.
Besides, there were also many products with a decrease in export value compared to the same period last year, such as rubber 799 million USD, down by 24.0%; tea reached 65 million USD, down by 18.9%; pepper reached 414 million USD, down by 9.9%; cassava and cassava products reached 539 million USD, down by 14.3%; pangasius 690 million USD, down by 40.7%; shrimp 1.22 billion USD, down by 34.4%, wood and wood products 5.1 billion USD, down by 27.3%; rattan, bamboo, sedge carpet 298 million USD, down by 28.4%.
The average export prices of a number of main export agricultural products decreased compared to the same period last year, specifically the price of pepper reached 3,011 USD/tonne, down by 34.9%; fertilizers of all kinds 415 USD/tonne, down by 35.2%; rubber 1,378 USD/tonne, down by 21.5%; cassava and cassava products 382 USD/tonne, down by12.0%; the price of rice reached 517 USD/tonne, up by 5.8%; the price of coffee reached 2,295 USD/tonne, up by 2.4%.
Regarding export markets, in the first 5 months of 2021, China, the United States and Japan continued to be the three largest export markets of Vietnam's agricultural, forestry and fishery products. In which, the export value to the Chinese market accounted for 20.4%, up by 2.9% over the same period last year; export value to the US market accounted for 19.8%, down by 35.2% and Japan accounted for 7.8%, down by 1.2%.
According to the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development, the major export markets of Vietnam's agricultural, forestry and fishery products gradually grew again, such as China Japan, and Asia.
However, the world economy continues to face many difficulties, high inflation in some developed countries, tight monetary policies, especially in large markets such as the US and Europe make businesses to be difficult in signing and fulfilling orders.
The Russia-Ukraine conflict continues to develop complicatedly, along with that, many countries have implemented policies to strengthen the protection of domestically produced products and goods; boosting agricultural production to proactively supply, making Vietnam's agricultural, forestry and fishery exports forecast to continue to face many difficulties.
In the country, fruit products have an abundant, relatively stable supply, many types are about to be harvested (mango, durian, jackfruit, lemon, litchi). Raising livestock and poultry is still difficult. The weather is abnormal, and is hotter and hotter due to El Nino, the risk of water shortage for agricultural, forestry and fishery production and forest fires is very high in many localities; diseases on crops and livestock also have potential risks of outbreaks affecting the agro-forestry-fishery production and business.
