Wheat import markets in first 4 months of 2023

AsemconnectVietnam - In the first 4 months of 2023, Vietnam's imported wheat volume reached 1.65 million tonnes, equivalent to nearly 604.27 million USD, up by 6.7% in volume, up by 5.6% in turnover compared to 4 months of 2022.

According to the preliminary statistics figures of the General Department of Customs, in April of 2023, the whole country imported 441,055 tonnes of wheat, equivalent to 159.57 million USD, the average price was 361.8 USD/tonne, down by nearly 26% in both volume and turnover compared to March of 2023. As compared to April of 2022, the figure also decreased in volume, turnover and price, with corresponding reductions of 10.9%, 15.5% and 5.2%.
Generally, in the first 4 months of 2023, the country's wheat imports reached over 1.65 million tonnes, equivalent to over 604.27 million USD, up by 6.7% in volume, up by 5.6% in turnover compared with the first 4 months of 2022, the average price reached 365.2 USD/tonne, down by 1.1%.
In April of 2023, wheat imports from the main market Australia decreased by 36.3% in volume, 37% in turnover and 1.2% in price compared to March of 2023, reaching 304,016 tonnes, equivalent to 106 .28 million USD, the price was at 349.6 USD/tonne. As compared to April of 2022, the figure increased by 21.9% in volume, increased by 8.3% in turnover but decreased slightly by 11.2% in price. For the first four months of 2023, the country’s wheat imports from Australia accounted for nearly 67.6% of the total volume and 65.7% of the total wheat import turnover of the country, with 1.12 million tonnes, equivalent to 397.08 million USD, the average price was 355 USD/tonne, up by 18.2% in volume, up by 12.6% in turnover but down by 4.7% in price compared to the first 4 months of 2022.
Besides Australia, the Brazilian market accounted for nearly 16% of the total volume and turnover, reaching 261,611 tonnes, equivalent to 95.82 million USD, the average price was 366.3 USD/tonne, down by 12.6% in volume, down by 7.2% in turnover but up by 6.2% in price compared to the first 4 months of 2022.
The next was the US market with 128,850 tonnes, equivalent to 53.69 million USD, priced at 416.7 USD/tonne, up by 23.4% in volume, up by 14.3% in turnover but down by 7.4% in price compared to the first 4 months of 2022, accounting for 7.8% of the total volume and 8.9% of the total import turnover of wheat of the country.
Wheat imports from the Canadian market reached 93,701 tonnes, equivalent to 39.46 million USD, a sharp increase of 2,051% in volume and 1.839% in turnover compared to the first 4 months of 2022.
