DAILY: Vietnamese coffee prices rose by 300 VND on May 22

 Monday, May 22,2023

AsemconnectVietnam - On Monday, Robusta coffee prices in Vietnam's Central Highlands, the country's largest coffee-growing area rose by 300 VND to VND59.500 - VND60.000 per kg compared to Yesterday due to lack of domestic supply, according to Kinhtedothi.com.

Cư M'gar of Dak Lak provided the maximum price of VND60.000/kg, while traders in Lam Dong province offered the lowest price of VND59.500/kg. Robusta coffee rose to VND59.500 per kg in Bao Loc, Di Linh, and Lam Ha; to VND59.900 – VND60.000 per kg in Dak Lak; to VND59.900 – 60.000 per kg in Dak Nong; to VND59,900 per kg in Kon Tum, and to VND59.800- 59.900 per kg in Gia Lai.
The Central Highlands province of Gia Lai – one of Vietnam’s coffee growing centres - is striving to develop its specialty coffee brand by focusing on increasing the quality and value of products.

At present, farmers in Gia Lai are growing coffee on nearly 99,000 ha, with an average yield of over 3 tonnes per ha, and the total output of more than 267,000 tonnes. Coffee is currently Gia Lai’s main farm produce export with a turnover of 490 million USD in 2022, accounting for nearly 71% of the province's total agro-product export value.

Over the past years, coffee production has contributed to creating direct and indirect jobs for hundreds of thousands of workers. As a result, the living standards of locals, including ethnic minorities, have gradually improved.

According to the province's agricultural restructuring plan for the 2021 - 2025 period, Gia Lai will not expand the coffee growing area, but maintain it at around 98,000 - 100,000 ha.

The General Department of Vietnam Customs reported preliminary data that coffee exports in the first 4.5 months of 2023 reached 778,986 tonnes (about 12.98 million bags), a decrease of 2.53% compared to the same period last year, continued to contribute to maintaining London coffee futures prices at sky-high levels.
