AsemconnectVietnam - On Friday, domestic pepper prices in Vietnam's Central Highlands decreased by 500 VND to VND73,500 – 77,500 per kg compared to Yesterday due to concerns about declining supply, according to Kinhtedothi,vn.

In Ba Ria-Vung Tau province, the maximum price for pepper fell to VND76,500 per kg, while in Gia Lai province, the lowest price at VND73,500 per kg. Farmers in Binh Phuoc sold pepper for VND76,000 per kilogram, Dong Nai province for VND74,000 per kilogram, and in Dak Lak and Dak Nong provinces for VND75,000 per kilogram.
According to Kinhtedothi.vn, in the past 1 month (April 18 - May 18), domestic pepper prices increased by about 10,000-11,000 VND/kg in localities. Notably, the current price is equal to this time 1 year ago. After a year of ups and downs, pepper prices remained unchanged in mid-May.
Commenting on market movements, experts see that it will not be like 2022. Last year, China's buying power was very weak, there was no shortage of goods. But this year the purchase volume from this country was very strong in the first 4 months of the year.
In addition, the increasing price sentiment and the expected decrease in supply in other producing countries will help the market go up, not down like last year.
Since 2001, Vietnam has become the world's largest pepper exporter with a total export volume of 56,506 tonnes, accounting for 28% of the world's total exports. Since then, Vietnam has continuously been the leading producer and exporter of pepper in the world.
The reason why Vietnamese pepper can develop like this is because Vietnam converges all favorable conditions in terms of nature, people, and application of science and technology in production and processing. Nature is endowed with fertile basalt soil, subtropical climate, high humidity, abundant rainfall. Vietnamese farmers are industrious, hardworking and eager to learn.
According to the Vietnam Pepper and Spices Association, in April 2023, Vietnam exported 26,291 tonnes of pepper of all kinds, of which 23,760 tonnes of black pepper and 2,531 tonnes of white pepper. In the first 4 months of 2023, Vietnam exported 103,018 tonnes of pepper. In which, exports to China's main pepper market reached 35,914 tonnes.
