Rice exports reached nearly 1.53 billion USD in first 4 months of 2023

AsemconnectVietnam - In the first 4 months of 2023, the whole country exported 2.9 million tonnes of rice, equivalent to 1.53 billion USD, a sharp increase of 40.7% in volume, up by 51.6% in turnover compared to the first 4 months of 2022.

According to the preliminary statistics figures of the General Department of Customs, in April of 2023, the whole country exported over 1.04 million tonnes of rice, equivalent to 545.85 million USD, the average price was 523.1 USD/tonne, an increase of 8.5 % in volume and 7.3% in turnover, but down slightly by 1.2% in price compared to March of2023. In comparison with April of 2022, it increased sharply by 87.8% in volume, 97.8% in turnover and 5.4% in price.
In April of 2023, the country’s exports of rice to the Philippines' main market decreased by 19.5% in both volume and value compared to March of 2023, reaching 395,362 tonnes, equivalent to 197.86 million USD; but increased slightly by 0.05% in price, reaching 500.45 USD/tonne. In comparison to April of 2022, it increased sharply by 62.4% in volume, 78% in turnover, and 9.7% in price. Rice exports to the Chinese market in April of 2023 also decreased by 11.2% in volume and 14.3% in turnover compared to March of 2023, reaching 166,681 tonnes, equivalent to 93.5 million USD; but compared to April of 2022, it also increased sharply by 40.7% in volume, up by 45.2% in turnover.
Notably, in April of 2023, rice exports to the Indonesian market increased sharply by 3,189% in volume and 3,172% in turnover compared to March of 2023, reaching 157,909 tonnes, equivalent to 79.34 million USD. And in comparison to April of 2022, the figure also increased sharply by 1.339% in volume, up by 1,405% in turnover
In the first four months of 2023, the country's rice export volume reached nearly 2.9 million tonnes, equivalent to nearly 1.53 billion USD, up by 40.7% in volume, up by 51.6% in turnover compared to that of the first four months of 2023. In the first 4 months of 2022, the average price reached 527 USD/tonne, up by 7.8%.
The Philippines still tops Vietnam's rice consumption, accounting for 44.4% of the total volume and 42.4% of the country's total rice export turnover, reaching 1.29 million tonnes, equivalent to 647.54 million USD, the average price was 503 USD/tonne, up by 40.6% in volume, up by 53.4% in turnover and 9.1% in price compared to the first 4 months of 2022.
It was followed by the Chinese market, accounted for 17.5% of the total volume and accounted for 19.2% of the total turnover, reaching 507,066 tonnes, equivalent to 292.56 million USD, the average price reached 577/tonne, a sharp increase of 70.8% in volume and 88.3% in turnover; prices increased by 10.3% compared to the first 4 months of 2022.
The Indonesian market ranked third with 306,496 tonnes, equivalent to 149.07 million USD, priced at 486.4 USD/tonne, a sharp increase of 2,498% in volume and 2,531% in turnover and a slight increase of 1.3% in price compared to the first 4 month of 2022, accounting for 10.6% of the total volume and 9.8% of the country's total rice export turnover.
Meanwhile, the exports to RCEP FTA markets reached 2.31 million tonnes, equivalent to over 1.19 billion USD, up by 66.9% in volume, up by 80.4% in turnover and the exports to FTA CPTTP markets reached 209,918 tonnes, equivalent to 106.6 million USD, up by 33.3% in volume and 35.8% in turnover.
