DAILY: Vietnamese pepper prices increased by 1000 VND per kg on May 10

AsemconnectVietnam - On Wednesday, domestic pepper prices in Vietnam's Central Highlands rose by 1000 VND to VND73,500 – 76,000 per kg compared to Yesterday due to concerns about declining supply, according to Kinhtedothi,vn.

In Ba Ria-Vung Tau province, the maximum price for pepper increased to VND76,000 per kg, while in Gia Lai province, the lowest price to VND73,000 per kg. Farmers in Binh Phuoc sold pepper for VND75,500 per kilogram, Dong Nai province for VND73,500 per kilogram, and in Dak Lak and Dak Nong provinces for VND74,000 per kilogram.
In the first 4 months of 2023, Vietnam exported 103,018 tonnes of pepper. In which, exports to China's main pepper market reached 35,914 tonnes.
According to the Vietnam Pepper and Spices Association, in April 2023, Vietnam exported 26,291 tonnes of pepper of all kinds, of which 23,760 tonnes of black pepper and 2,531 tonnes of white pepper.
Total export turnover reached 83.4 million USD, 71.9 million USD for black pepper, and 11.5 million USD for white pepper, down 26.8% and by 22.3% compared to the previous month. The average export price of black pepper in April was $3,455/tonne, white pepper was $4,869/tonne.
China continues to be the main export market of Vietnamese pepper with 9,995 tonnes, down 36.4% from the previous month. Exports to the US also decreased by 20% to 3,816 tonnes, similarly exports to India, UAE, Thailand, Philippines ... also decreased but increased in Germany, the Netherlands, the UK, and Turkey.
Top exporters in April include Dang Nguyen Ls: 2,749 tonnes, Tran Chau: 1,774 tonnes, Minh Quang Ls: 1,660 tonnes, Olam: 1,539 tonnes, Nedspice Vietnam: 1,428 tonnes… VPA exports decreased by 17.3% and accounted for 55.2% of the market share, businesses outside of VPA decreased by 35.9%.
By the end of April 2023, Vietnam exported 103,018 tonnes of pepper, with black pepper reaching 93,982 tonnes and white pepper reaching 9,036 tonnes.
Total export turnover reached 319.3 million USD, in black pepper 277.3 million USD, and in white pepper 41.9 million USD. Compared to the same period last year, the export volume increased by 29.7%, equivalent to 23,608 tonnes, however, the export turnover decreased by 13.6%, equivalent to a decrease of USD 50.4 million.
Exports to Asia increased by 77%, accounting for 60.2% of the market share, of which China continues to be the main export market of Vietnamese pepper. In the first 4 months of 2023, exports to China reached 35,914 tonnes, increased 1,430.2% over the same period. However, exports to the UAE and India decreased by 27.2% and 32.7%, respectively.
Americas accounted for 17.3% market share but decreased by 5.4% over the same period, of which exports to the US reached 5,684 tonnes, down 18.3%. Exports to Europe also decreased by 9.5%, of which Germany decreased by 43.7%; the Netherlands down by 20.5%; Türkiye increased by 188.7% and the UK fell 12.7%.
Exports to Africa showed signs of recovery, especially to the main market Egypt, which increased by 239.5% to 1,786 tonnes. The leading white pepper import markets are China, the United States, and Germany.
