DAILY: Vietnamese pepper prices increased by 1000 VND per kg on May 9

 Tuesday, May 9,2023

AsemconnectVietnam - On Tuesday, domestic pepper prices in Vietnam's Central Highlands rose by 1000 VND to VND72,500 – 75,000 per kg compared to Yesterday due to concerns about declining supply, according to Kinhtedothi,vn.

In Ba Ria-Vung Tau province, the maximum price for pepper increased to VND75,000 per kg, while in Gia Lai province, the lowest price to VND72,000 per kg. Farmers in Binh Phuoc sold pepper for VND74,500 per kilogram, Dong Nai province for VND72,500 per kilogram and in Dak Lak and Dak Nong provinces for VND73,000 per kilogram.
In the past half month, the domestic market has had two price increases. In which, the first phase lasted from April 25 to 28, the price increased by 3,000 VND/kg and the second phase from 4 to 7/5, the highest price increased by 5,000 VND/kg, reaching the highest mark of 75,000 VND/kg.
Experts say that the increase in prices is due to concerns about declining supply, not only in Vietnam but globally. In which, the direct impact factor is the prolonged heat wave in the key pepper growing provinces in Vietnam.
After a prolonged heat wave, in the past few days, some localities in the Central Highlands have had "cooling off" rain. For example, on the afternoon of May 8, a heavy rain lasting nearly 1 hour cooled down the local drought in Dak Mil (Dak Nong). On the same day, many other areas in Dak Nong also received rain and cooled down after many hot and sunny days.
The rain has cooled down the hot and muggy situation for a long time in Dak Mil. More importantly, the rain has partially relieved the drought for crops in some communes of the district.
However, there are still concerns that drought and lack of irrigation water will affect pepper due to the harsh summer forecast. In addition, the market is also waiting for export data for April 2023 to be officially announced to assess the market.
