DAILY: Vietnamese pepper prices remained unchanged on May 8

 Monday, May 8,2023

AsemconnectVietnam - On Monday, domestic pepper prices in Vietnam's Central Highlands remained unchanged at VND71,500 – 74,000 per kg compared to Yesterday, according to Kinhtedothi,vn.

In Ba Ria-Vung Tau province, the maximum price for pepper increased to VND74,000 per kg, while in Gia Lai province, the lowest price to VND71,000 per kg. Farmers in Binh Phuoc sold pepper for VND73,500 per kilogram, Dong Nai province for VND71,500 per kilogram and in Dak Lak and Dak Nong provinces for VND72,000 per kilogram.
Experts said that the market's upward force after the holiday came from the weather factor. The intense heat of the past week across the country, especially in the key growing areas of the Southeast and the Central Highlands, caused the prices of agricultural products to rise, especially coffee and pepper.
The heat caused concerns about new crop production to increase, affecting supply in the long term. Many localities have warned that this year may be late flowering, causing next year's harvest to be affected in terms of time and yield.
If there is an El Niño in the second half of 2023, it will cause the commodity markets to skyrocket, including pepper.
In addition, pepper is being supported by the information that the output of countries about to harvest is expected to decrease. Total global pepper production in 2023 is estimated at 526 thousand tons compared to 537.6 thousand tons in 2022.
According to the Import-Export Department (Ministry of Industry and Trade), Vietnam's pepper export activity took place more actively in the second quarter of 2023 thanks to high demand from the markets of China, Papua New Guinea, ASEAN, and Turkey… offset the still quiet import demand of the US and EU markets.
Exporting enterprises actively buy raw materials to replenish inventories. However, the amount of pepper material put on the market is quite small because farmers and dealers expect pepper prices to increase in the near future.
