DAILY: Vietnamese pepper prices increased 1500 VND on May 4

 Thursday, May 4,2023

AsemconnectVietnam - On Thursday, domestic pepper prices in Vietnam's Central Highlands rose by 1500 VND to VND67,500 – 70,000 per kg compared to Yesterday, according to Kinhtedothi,vn.

In Ba Ria-Vung Tau province, the maximum price for pepper increased to VND70,000 per kg, while in Gia Lai province, the lowest price to VND67,500 per kg. Farmers in Binh Phuoc sold pepper for VND69,500 per kilogram, Dong Nai province for VND67,500 per kilogram and in Dak Lak and Dak Nong provinces for VND68,500 per kilogram.
Experts expect the price to increase as Vietnam continues to export a large volume in April 2023 (forecast 30,000 tonnes), bringing the total export volume in 4 months to approximately 107,000 tonnes; 25,000-30,000 tonnes higher than compared to same period in 2022.
With the output of the last harvest forecasted at just over 200,000 tonnes, while exporting up to 107,000 tonnes in 4 months, it can be seen that selling pressure from farmers and agents will not be much because it is still far from the harvest 2024.
Although the price of pepper has increased in the past harvest, the profit is still not really attractive to farmers when costs such as fertilizer, harvesting labor… have all increased.
As a result, the area of pepper has continuously decreased in the past 3 years, and is expected to continue to decrease when farmers develop other fruit crops such as durian, avocado, jackfruit...
Notably, after the harvest, the weather in Vietnam becomes hot, especially in the key pepper regions of the country such as Dak Lak, Dak Nong, Dong Nai, Ba Ria Vung Tau... El Nino is forecast to affect pepper gardens.
Therefore, despite relatively gloomy demand from import markets, farmers, traders and many analysts expect pepper prices to have impressive growth momentum in the coming years.
Following are domestic pepper prices on May 4, 2022, in the main pepper growing and consumption regions:
