AsemconnectVietnam - On Friday, Robusta coffee prices in Vietnam's Central Highlands, the country's largest coffee-growing area fell by 200 VND to VND50,400 – 50,900 per kg compared to Yesterday, according to Kinhtedothi.com.

Cư M'gar of Dak Lak provided the maximum price of VND50,900/kg, while traders in Lam Dong province offered the lowest price of VND50,400/kg. Robusta coffee decreased to VND50,400 per kg in Bao Loc, Di Linh, and Lam Ha; to VND50,800- 50,900 per kg in Dak Lak; to VND50,700-50,800 per kg in Dak Nong; to VND50,800 per kg in Kon Tum, and to VND50,700-50,900 per kg in Gia Lai.
Vietnam coffee export prices slid to discounts against the international benchmark, as London robusta prices inched up this week on near-empty stocks, traders said on Thursday. The market was closed in Indonesia on account of Eid Al-Fitr.
Traders in Vietnam offered 5% black and broken-grade 2 robusta at a discount range of $30-$50 per tonne to the July contract. The prices were $40-$50 premium to the same contract.
"The prices are too high now, while no beans are available," said a trader based in the coffee belt, adding that no deals were being sealed at the current rates.
Another trader based in the same region said farmers were downsizing their coffee cultivation area and growing passion fruits and durian instead.
"These trees take five years to bear fruits for harvest, but many are still cutting down coffee trees for the transition," the trader added.
July robusta coffee gained $54 over the past week, settling at $2,386 as of Wednesday's close.
The General Department of Customs of Vietnam reported that coffee exports in the first half of April 2023 reached 81,348 tonnes (equivalent to 1,355 million bags), bringing coffee exports in the first three months of the year to a total of 634,023 tonnes, down 4.32% over the same period last year.
