Coffee exports to Indonesia, Russia, and Algeria increased by 3 digits in March

AsemconnectVietnam - The Import-Export Department (under the Ministry of Industry and Trade) quoted the statistics figures from the General Department of Customs as saying that in March of 2023, Vietnam's coffee exports reached 210,370 tonnes, worth of 482.43 million USD, an increase 5.2% in volume and 10.9% in value compared to February of 2023.

In comparison with March of 2022, the figure decreased by 0.3% in volume, but increased by 1.7% in value.
In the first quarter of 2023, Vietnam's coffee exports reached 552,610 tonnes, worth of approximately 1.23 billion USD, down by 5.0% in volume and 5.4% in value over the same period of 2022.
In March of 2023, the average export price of Vietnam's coffee reached 2,293 USD per tonne, up by 5.5% compared to February of 2023 and up by 2.0% compared to March of 2022. However, in the first quarter of 2023, Vietnam's average coffee export price reached 2,222 USD per ton, down by 0.3% over the same period of 2022.
Regarding the markets, in March of 2023, coffee exports to Belgium, Spain, Japan and the Netherlands decreased compared to March of 2022, however, the exports to some markets grew from 2 to 3 digits, including: Indonesia, Russia, Algeria, the United States. In general, in the first quarter of 2023, Vietnam's coffee exports to most markets increased, except for Belgium, Spain, Japan, and the Netherlands. Notably, coffee exports to Indonesia and Algeria recorded a 3-digit growth rate compared to the first quarter of 2022.
Specifically, recording the strongest export growth in March of 2023 was the Russian market with a value of 30.7 million USD, up by 418% over the same period last year. By the end of the first quarter of 2023, coffee exports to Russia increased by more than 76% over the same period of 2022. Currently, Russia is one of the four largest customers of Vietnamese coffee exports.
In second place was Indonesia with export turnover in March of 2023 reaching nearly 18 million USD, an increase of nearly 363% compared to March of 2022. By the end of the first quarter of 2023, coffee exports to this market earned nearly 39.3 million USD, up by 209% over the same period last year.
The value of coffee exports to Algeria in March reached nearly 17 million USD, up by 184.5 percent compared to March of 2022. In the first quarter of 2023, coffee exports to this market reached nearly 40.1 million USD, up by 126.8 percent over the same period last year.
For the US market, in March, the country’s export turnover to this market reached more than 34.5 million USD, up by 34.7% in value over the same period last year. In general, in the first quarter of 2023, export turnover to this market reached more than 86 million USD, up by 26.9% in value over the same period last year.
In the opposite direction, in the first quarter of 2023, businesses exported 220,749 tonnes of coffee to the EU market with a value of 473.7 million USD, down by 8.2% in volume and 10.4% in value compared to the same period last year. With this result, the EU continued to be Vietnam's largest coffee export market, accounting for nearly 40% of total exports.
