DAILY: Vietnamese pepper prices remained unchanged on April 12

AsemconnectVietnam - On Wednesday, domestic pepper prices in Vietnam's Central Highlands remained unchanged at VND63,000 – 66,000 per kg compared to Yesterday, according to Kinhtedothi,vn.

In Ba Ria-Vung Tau province, the maximum price for pepper rose to VND66,000 per kg, while in Gia Lai province, the lowest price stayed at VND63,000 per kg. Farmers in Binh Phuoc sold pepper for VND65,000 per kilogram, Dong Nai province for VND63,500 per kilogram and in Dak Lak and Dak Nong provinces for VND64,000 per kilogram.
According to preliminary statistics of the Vietnam Pepper and Spices Association, Vietnam exported 35,913 tonnes of pepper of all kinds in March 2023, of which 32,912 tonnes of black pepper and 3,001 tonnes of white pepper. Total pepper export turnover reached 107.2 million USD, of which 93.6 million USD of black pepper and 13.6 million USD of white pepper, up 27.5% over the previous month.
The average export price of black pepper in March reached $3,454/tonne, up 5.5% from the previous month and the price of white pepper reached $4,841/tonne, down 15.9% from the previous month.
Notably, businesses outside the Association had strong export growth due to a sudden increase in exports to China. Topping is Dang Nguyen Ls with 3,421 tonnes, followed by Ly Hoang Son: 2,171 tonnes, Minh Quang Ls: 1,941 tonnes…
In the business sector of the Vietnam Pepper and Spices Association, Synthite company exported 1,166 tonnes, up 170.5%, Haprosimex exported 1,727 tonnes, up 94.3%. Meanwhile, export of Tran Chau ranked first at 1,994 tonnes, down 15.1%.
Exports to China in March reached 15,710 tonnes, up 85.2% from February and reaching an all-time monthly high.March also recorded an increase in exports to traditional markets such as the United States, Germany, the Netherlands, India, Egypt, France, Russia, Canada, and Spain, while exports to Saudi Arabia,Turkey and the United Kingdom decreased compared to February 2023.
In the first quarter of 2023, Vietnam exported 76,727 tonnes, of which 70,222 tonnes of black pepper and 6,505 tonnes of white pepper. Total export turnover reached 235.9 million USD, of which black pepper reached 205.4 million USD, white pepper reached 30.5 million USD.
Compared to the same period last year, the export volume increased by 40.5% or 22,112 tonnes, however, the export turnover decreased by 7.3% or 18.5 million USD.
Exports in the first 3 months of the year to China reached 25,919 tonnes compared with 2,138 tonnes in the same period. The association explains the sudden increase in exports because China buys to make up for the shortage of goods after 3 years of closure because of Covid-19.
In contrast to the Chinese market, exports to the United States, Germany, the Netherlands, the United Kingdom, and India decreased due to the economic crisis, so the markets limited purchases.
Some other markets recorded an increase in exports such as Iran up 461%; Türkiye increased by 331.3%; Egypt by 218.4%; Senegal increased by 148.8%… The leading import markets of white pepper: Germany, the United States, China, the Netherlands…
