 Tuesday, April 11,2023

AsemconnectVietnam - In the first quarter of 2023, the export of rattan, bamboo, sedge and carpet products was estimated at 172.42 million USD, down by 35.1% over the same period of 2022.

The Import-Export Department (under the Ministry of Industry and Trade) quoted data from the General Department of Customs as saying, it is estimated that the country’s exports of rattan, bamboo, sedge and carpet products in March of 2023 reached 70 million USD, up by 23.5% compared to February of 2023, but down by 21.5% compared to March of 2022.
Generally in the first quarter of 2023, the exports of rattan, bamboo, sedge and carpet products were estimated at 172.42 million USD, down by 35.1% over the same period of 2022.
Particularly in February of 2023, Vietnam's exports of rattan, bamboo, sedge and carpet products reached 56.66 million USD, up by 23.8% compared to January of 2023, but down by 16.3% compared to February of 2022. Generally in the first 2 months of 2023, the exports of rattan, bamboo, sedge and carpet products reached 102.42 million USD, down by 41.7% over the same period of 2022.
Regarding the markets, Vietnam's exports of rattan, bamboo, sedge and carpet products to the EU market in February of 2023 reached 15.79 million USD, up by 13.8% compared to January of 2023, but down by 2.8% compared to February of 2022. Generally in the first two months of 2023, the exports of rattan, bamboo, sedge and carpet products to the EU reached 29.62 million USD, down by 31.8% over the same period of 2022. Among handicraft products that the EU imported from Vietnam, rattan was leading.
For the US market, in February of 2023, exports of rattan, bamboo, sedge and carpet products to this market reached 19,335 million USD, up by 28.1% compared to January of 2023; down by 36.8% compared to February of 2022. Generally in the first 2 months of 2023, the exports of rattan, bamboo, sedge and carpet products to the US reached 34.45 million USD, down by 55.4% over the same period of 2022.
Over the past time, global inflation, especially in major export markets such as the US, EU and Japan, has reduced the purchasing power of consumers. Export growth in 2023 will depend on many factors such as the conflict in Ukraine, the situation of controlling inflation, and economic developments in major import markets in the world.
On the supply side, the impact of China's economic opening after controlling the Covid-19 epidemic may make Vietnamese goods more competitive in export markets.
However, there are also many positive factors for export activities in general and handicraft exports in particular, such as Free Trade Agreements (FTAs) continuing to implement the tariff reduction roadmap.
However, in order to seize the opportunity to expand the markets, craft village establishments and businesses need to be equipped with basic platforms according to market requirements, apply information technology, use e-commerce platforms and traceability technology.
