DAILY: Vietnamese coffee prices increased by 600 VND on April 6

 Thursday, April 6,2023

AsemconnectVietnam - On Thursday, Robusta coffee prices in Vietnam's Central Highlands, the country's largest coffee-growing area rose by 600 VND to VND49,600 – 50,000 per kg compared to Yesterday, according to Kinhtedothi.com.

Cư M'gar of Dak Lak provided the maximum price of VND49,400/kg, while traders in Lam Dong province offered the lowest price of VND49,000 /kg. Robusta coffee increased to VND49,600 per kg in Bao Loc, Di Linh, and Lam Ha; to VND49,900- 50,000 per kg in Dak Lak; to VND49,800-49,900 per kg in Dak Nong; to VND49,900 per kg in Kon Tum, and to VND49,800-49,900 per kg in Gia Lai.
An increasing amount of farmers in the Central Highlands' Gia Lai Province have switched from coffee to more popular passion fruit. Chu Pah District is currently the largest passion fruit growing area in Gia Lai. Across the district, there are currently 500 hectares of passion fruit farms.
Often, the coffee trees are too old to create high-yield crops. Also, input costs for coffee are too high and the crops demand too much maintenance. However, Le Van Thanh, director of an agricultural cooperative in Chu Pah, said many farmers have been rushing to grow passion fruits without having a proper plan on how to sell it. Still, with so many farmers switching from coffee to passion fruit, Gia Lai authorities have taken action to review output in the province to avoid oversupply.
Coffee exports from Vietnam are estimated to have decreased 1.6% in the first quarter of 2023 from a year earlier to 572,000 tonnes, equivalent to 9.5 million 60-kg (130-pound) bags, the General Statistics Office said on Wednesday. Coffee export revenue for Vietnam, the world's biggest producer of the robusta bean, fell 2.3% to $1.3 billion in the January-March period, the agency said. The country's coffee shipments in March are estimated at 230,000 tonnes, valued at $522 million.
