Nestlé launches coffee capsule production line

 Saturday, July 21,2018

AsemconnectVietnam - Nestlé Group inaugurated a capsule production line, Nescafé Dolce Gusto, in the southern province of Dong Nai yesterday, becoming Vietnam’s first enterprise to produce coffee in a pill form.

The production line, located in the Nestlé Tri An factory at the Amata Industrial Park in Bien Hoa City, uses high-quality Vietnamese coffee beans and is expected to provide premium coffee products for both domestic consumption and export.

According to a representative of the group, the new production line will process 2,500 tons of coffee per year, equivalent to 130 million capsules. As planned, the volume will increase in the coming years.
With Nescafé instant coffee and decaffeinated coffee already being processed in Nestlé factories in Vietnam, Nescafé Dolce Gusto output from the Nestlé Tri An factory will raise the volume of Vietnamese coffee through Nestlé production lines in the country.
The group’s coffee capsules, manufactured by the Nescafé Dolce Gusto coffee machine and introduced in Vietnam in October 2015, will meet the domestic demand, enabling Vietnamese coffee lovers to enjoy high-quality coffee at a reasonable price.
Some 90% of products from the new production line will be shipped to other markets in Asia, including Thailand, the Philippines, Malaysia, Singapore, Hong Kong, Taiwan and Indonesia.
Ganesan Ampalavanar, managing director of Nestlé Vietnam, noted that the  production line will help make coffee products widely accessible to 13 export markets, reaffirming Nestlé Vietnam’s commitment to adding value to and developing Vietnam’s coffee industry.
Nestlé is currently Vietnam’s leading coffee buyer, with an annual purchase volume of 20-25% of the total coffee output in the country. To enhance the value of Vietnamese coffee beans, Nestlé Vietnam applied its Nescafé Plan in 2011, with the aim of improving the output and quality of coffee beans for export and raising the production volume of coffee products, such as the Nescafé Dolce Gusto capsules.
Nguyen Quoc Toan, acting director of the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development’s agricultural product processing and market development department, stated that the average growth rate of coffee output had gained 2% per year in the 2010-2017 period, adding that Vietnam had exported US$3.24 billion worth of coffee to nearly 100 countries in 2017.
The inauguration of the new capsule production line will contribute to introducing Vietnamese coffee to the global value chain.
Nestlé operates six factories in Vietnam, with more than 2,500 employees nationwide and total investment amounting to US$527 million.
