In the first quarter of 2024, our country imported 4.85 million tonnes (equivalent to 1.65 billion USD), an increase of 6.4% in volume and a decrease of 12.3% in value compared to the same period in 2023. Regarding prices of livestock products, Mr. Duong Tat Thang said that in early 2024, in all 3 regions, price of live-weight pork increased rapidly compared to the end of 2023. On average, in January 2024, the price reached 53,000 VND/kg. In February, the price increased by about 3,000 – 4,000 VND/kg and continue to increase in March (average price in March reached 58,100 VND/kg).
Currently, prices are fluctuating from 58,000 – 62,000 VND/kg, depending on each province and there have been contrasting increases and decreases between regions in the past few days (while in the North, prices tend to decrease slightly by 1,000-2,000 VND/kg, the price in the South increased by 1,000 – 2,000 VND/kg respectively).
Comparing average price of live pigs in the first quarter of the past 3 years shows that average price in the first quarter of 2024 is about 5,000 VND/kg higher (up 9.7%) compared to the same period in 2023. With the selling price level, in general, farmers are making a profit of 5,000-6,000 VND/kg.
An average price of industrially raised chickens ranges from 46,000 – 50,000 VND/kg. If in January 2024, the price difference in the North was higher than the South, then by the end of March, the prices in the three regions were relatively consistent, ranging from 45.500 – 47,000 VND. On average across the country in the first quarter of 2024, the price of colored feather chickens is about 11,300 VND/kg (up 30.8%) compared to the average price in the first quarter of 2023.
The price of white-feathered chickens, since the beginning of the year, has increased from 23,000 to 33,000 VND/kg, currently ranging from 29,000 to 33,000 VND/kg. On average across the country in the first quarter of 2024, the price of white-feathered chickens is 2,000 – 3,000 VND/kg higher than the average in the first quarter of 2022 and 2023.
The price of chicken eggs ranges from 17,000 – 24,000 VND/10 eggs, with a slight upward trend during the quarter. Comparing an average price of live pigs and broilers with colored feathers raised industrially chicken at the same time in March in the past 3 years, price levels in March 2024 are all have higher prices than in the remaining years. Only the price of broiler chicken with slightly white feathers has decreased.
Prices of raw materials and animal feed in the first quarter of 2024 tend to decrease.
Mr. Duong Tat Thang further informed that compared to the same period in 2023, the prices of main animal feed ingredients in the first quarter of 2024 tend to decrease. Specifically, corn grain is 6,827 VND/kg (down 20.3%), soybean meal is 14,162 VND/kg (down 4.4%), wheat bran is 6,026 VND/kg (down 15.1%), rice bran is 5,971 VND/kg (down 11.7%);
Compared to the peak period of animal feed raw material prices (in the second quarter of 2022), the prices of main raw materials such as corn kernels and soybean meal have decreased by 26.2% respectively; 24% and 8.6%.
Meanwhile, an average price of main mixed feeds in the first quarter of 2024 decreased from 10.7 - 15.6% depending on type compared to the average price of the first quarter of 2023 (peak period of animal feed, finished products), specifically: complete mixed feed for pigs 12,087 VND/kg (down 15.6%), complete mixed feed for colored broiler chickens 12,090 VND/kg (down 13.1%); complete mixed feed for white-feathered meat chickens 12,633 VND/kg (down 10.7%).
General opinion that in the coming time, due to stable raw material supply and falling prices, domestic finished animal feed prices will continue to follow a downward trend, but it will be difficult to return to pre-epidemic prices.
The key task set by Department of Livestock in the second quarter of 2024 is to coordinate with Department of Animal Health and relevant units and localities in implementing disease prevention in livestock herds.
Strengthen channels to closely monitor developments in supply and prices of animal feed ingredients domestically and in the world and take timely measures to minimize impacts on livestock production efficiency.
Participate in coordinating relevant units to conduct measures to strictly control trading and transportation of livestock, poultry and related products, especially at border gates, trails and entrances to border area. Coordinate with relevant functional units to handle violations of quality of livestock breeds and animal feed...
