Vietnam’s LPG import markets in 2025

AsemconnectVietnam - In 2025, Vietnam imported over 3.63 million tonnes of LPG, worth over US$2.15 billion, with an average price of US$593.16/tonne.

According to the preliminary statistics from the Customs Department, in December of 2025, the country imported 504,139 tonnes of LPG, equivalent to nearly US$276.34 million, with an average price of US$548.14/tonne, a sharp increase of 51.62% in volume, 56.07% in value, and 2.94% in price compared to November of 2025. In comparison to December of 2024, there was also a sharp increase of 154.29% in volume, 102.31% in value, but a decrease of 20.44% in price.
Overall in 2025, the country imported over 3.63 million tonnes of liquefied natural gas (LNG), worth over US$2.15 billion, with an average price of US$593.16/tonne, an increase of 16.61% in volume, a 5.42% increase in value, but a 9.6% decrease in price compared to 2024.
Vietnam imported LNG mostly from three markets: Malaysia, China, and Qatar; of which, Malaysia was the largest market. The LNG imports from this market in December of 2025 increased sharply by 48.43% in volume, 52.77% in value, and a 2.93% increase in price compared to November of 2025, reaching 35,554 tonnes, equivalent to nearly US$21.03 million, at a price of US$591.5/tonne. Compared to December of 2024, the imports also increased sharply by 86.56% in volume and 44.07% in value, but decreased by 22.77% in price.
Overall, in 2025, Vietnam imported 562,947 tonnes of liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) from Malaysia, equivalent to nearly US$363.55 million, at a price of US$645.79/tonne, representing a 71.05% increase in volume, a 63.06% increase in value, but a 4.67% decrease in price compared to 2024; accounting for 15.51% of the total volume and 16.88% of the total value of LPG imports nationwide.
China was Vietnam's second largest liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) import market. In 2025, Vietnam imported 305,632 tonnes of LPG from China, equivalent to over US$199.22 million, at an import price of US$651.82/tonne. This represented a 1.41% increase in volume, but an 8.53% decrease in value and a 9.8% decrease in price compared to 2024, accounting for 8.42% of the total volume and 9.25% of the total value. In December of 2025 alone, Vietnam imported 31,504 tonnes of LPG from China, equivalent to nearly US$18.99 million, at a price of US$602.76/tonne, a 41.93% increase in volume, a 49.22% increase in value compared to November of 2025, and a 5.14% increase in price. Compared to December of 2024, there was a 16.09% increase in volume, but a 4.97% decrease in value and an 18.14% decrease in price.
The next was the Qatar market. December of 2025 marks the fifth consecutive month that Vietnam has not imported liquefied natural gas (LNG) from this market. For the whole year of 2025, Vietnam imported 283,336 tonnes of LNG from Qatar, valued at nearly US$175.01 million, at a price of US$617.66/tonne, a sharp decrease of 54.29% in volume, a decrease of 54.53% in value, and a slight decrease of 0.52% in price compared to the whole year of 2024; accounting for 7.8% of the total volume and 8.13% of the total value of LNG imports nationwide.
Notably, liquefied natural gas (LNG) imports from South Korea in 2025 continued to increase sharply compared to 2024, rising by 68.48% in volume and 50.78% in value, although they only accounted for a small proportion, 1.44% of the total volume and 1.6% of the total value of LNG imports nationwide, reaching 52,312 tonnes, equivalent to nearly 34.42 million USD.
In December of 2025 alone, the imports from South Korea increased by 2.47% in volume and 5.25% in value compared to November of 2025, reaching 4,353 tonnes, equivalent to 2.63 million USD.
Meanwhile, the imports of liquefied natural gas (LNG) from Thailand continued to decline sharply, by 94.43% in volume and 94.29% in value compared to the whole year of 2024, reaching only 1,737 tonnes, equivalent to 1.27 million USD, accounting for 0.05% of the total volume and 0.06% of the total value of LNG imports nationwide.
The imports of LNG from Saudi Arabia also declined sharply by 52.89% in volume and 60.16% in value compared to the whole year of 2024, reaching 189,005 tonnes, equivalent to 105.21 million USD, accounting for 5.21% of the total volume and 4.89% of the total value of LNG imports nationwide.
The imports of liquefied natural gas (LNG) from Southeast Asian countries in December of 2025 reached 35,554 tonnes, equivalent to nearly US$21.03 million, a sharp increase of 48.43% in volume and 52.77% in value compared to November of 2025. Compared to December of 2024, there was also a sharp increase of 69.63% in volume and 32.9% in value. For the whole year 2025, the figure reached 564,684 tonnes, equivalent to US$364.82 million, an increase of 34.77% in volume and 32.6% in value compared to the same period in 2024, accounting for 15.55% of the total volume and 16.94% of the total value.
LPG import market structure by value for the whole year of 2025
Vietnam’s LPG imports from FTA - RCEP markets in December of 2025 reached 76,351 tonnes, equivalent to over US$45.52 million, a sharp increase of 51.5% in volume and 57.01% in value compared to November of 2025. Compared to December of 2024, there was also an increase of 40.56% in volume and 12.56% in value. For the whole year 2025, the LPG imports reached 1.02 million tonnes, equivalent to over US$654.23 million, an increase of 24.57% in volume and 17.88% in value compared to the whole year 2024, accounting for 27.84% of the total volume and 30.38% of the total value.
Meanwhile, the imports of liquefied natural gas (LNG) from the FTA – CPTTP market in December of 2025 reached 40,494 tonnes, equivalent to over US$23.9 million, a sharp increase of 69.06% in volume and 73.61% in value compared to November of 2025. Compared to December of 2024, there was also a very strong increase of 112.48% in volume and 63.72% in value. For the whole year 2025, the LNG imports reached 650,955 tonnes, equivalent to nearly US$419.33 million, an increase of 67.35% in volume and 59.93% in value compared to the same period in 2024, accounting for 17.93% of the total volume and 19.47% of the total value.
