Wheat imports decreased in first 5 months of 2025

AsemconnectVietnam - According to the preliminary statistics from the General Department of Customs, wheat imports of all kinds in the first 5 months of 2025 reached over 2.74 million tonnes, worth of nearly 728.97 million USD, with an average price of 265.9 USD/tonne, down by 3.2% in volume, down by 6.5% in turnover and down by 3.4% in price compared to the first 5 months of 2024.
In particular, in May of 2025 alone, it reached 336,953 tonnes, equivalent to 91.04 million USD, with an average price of 270.2 USD/tonne, down sharply by 56.6% in volume, down 56.2% in turnover but up by 1.1% in price compared to April of 2025. Compared to May of 2024, it also decreased by 36.9% in volume, decreased by 35.5% in turnover but increased by 2.2% in price.
Brazil was the largest market supplying wheat to Vietnam in the first 5 months of 2025, accounting for 36.1% of the total volume and 34.9% of the total wheat import turnover of the country, reaching 989,002 tonnes, equivalent to nearly 254.41 million USD, the average price was 257.2 USD/tonne, down by 12.5% in volume, down by 9.9% in turnover but up by 3% in price compared to the first 5 months of 2024. In May of 2025, no wheat was imported from this market.
The second largest market was Australia, in the first 5 months of 2025 reaching 650,821 tonnes, equivalent to 177.4 million USD, price 272.6 USD/tonne, accounting for 23.7% of the total volume and 24.3% of the total wheat import turnover of the whole country, up by 23% in volume, up by 6.5% in turnover but the price decreased 13.4% compared to the first 5 months of 2024. The next was the US market. In the first 5 months of 2025, the country’s imports of wheat from the U.S reached 339,971 tonnes, equivalent to 93.04 million USD, the price was 273.7 USD/tonne, accounting for 12.4% of the total volume and 12.8% of the total wheat import turnover of the whole country, up sharply by 52.5% in volume, up by 26.3% in turnover but price decreased 17.2% compared to the first 5 months of 2024.
